Season: Winter      Month: December

Breeding / Birthing: Year Round

There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

About Martina

My name is Martina and I am from Alberta, Canada. I am currently 20 years old, and in my third year of University. I am taking a combined degree of English Literature and East Asian Language Studies (majoring in Japanese, minoring in Mandarin Chinese). I can't remember when I started roleplaying (I think around grade 8/2005), but I've been doing it for at least 5 years now, although I took a break from September-ish 2010 until February 2011. I love Asia, though I have a particular addiction with Korean and Japanese pop culture. My dream is to become an interpreter and translator in and out of English, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese and Korean, and travel all over the world in order to do that. I might add in some other languages too, because I'm very fascinated by language. Anyway, feel free to send me a PM or request a thread with me, I love interacting with anyone and everyone! =D

Snowy. Dressed in the clearest, most lucid of silky whites, Ariadne's attire is an exact replica of her mother's. The hairs that color the base of her coat are a white as fresh as just-fallen snow, stark and brilliant to the eye. Alabaster colors every inch of her form, from the slim figure of her muzzle to the thick and fluffy hair that surrounds her neck, trailing down the lines of her body and tipping the end of her tail. Being of such a white color is difficult to maintain however, and in nature Ariadne often looks slightly discolored, the hairs on her body turning their brilliance down a notch. During the months of spring and summer, when snow melts and the air warms, and dirt becomes abundant, her coat often becomes marred with soft yellows and golds which discolor the white of her coat into a buttery cream, which still looks just as flattering, if not as beautiful as her winter coat. When the air cools and her fur thickens itself, then the yellows disappear, and her bewitching tresses gravitate from cream into bleached ivory. Ariadne blends in perfectly with the snow, almost completely a part of nature except for the sudden stark black that colors her nose and lips. The ebony stands out simply for being the opposite color of the rest of her body, drawing instant attention to her face. Inevitably her eyes are the most defining feature of her monochrome garb. Glowing, aquamarine green orbs dance off her color-less face, glinting with hints of deep sea blue and dashes of emerald green. Ariadne's parents manifest themselves the most in her eyes, which are a perfect mix of both Keoto's green, and Remedy's blue.

Comely. Ariadne is composed with small bones and dainty features, making the female small, although she still remains in the realm of average for her gender and species. Her overall smallness is accentuated on a tiny, sculpted face, topped with minute ears and a short muzzle, leaving Ariadne with more of her mother's Arctic heritage than the Timber heritage of her father. Having shorter legs and smaller paws can make her appear very small, and this is especially true during the spring and summer when her winter coat sheds and her thinner hair reveals the true proportions of her body. Winter can cause the hair on her body to fluff up, and leaves Ariadne with a much more average-looking appearance, the thick coat helping to fill in her thinner aspects. Her walk and her voice are the essence of being less, a slow gait and soft-spoken song, both used to lose attention rather than draw it. Her diminuitive features call for a pretty face, but this female is nothing exceptional when it comes to appearances, and wouldn't grant second glance at first passing. Although her face and her stature could possible become something beautiful with the right attitude, Ariadne remains much to shy to show herself off, and gratefully hides beneath averageness, toying with the middle line. Though with the right amount of attention and patience, someone could easily come to see her as the pretty female she is, deep down inside.

Personality.
Shy. Socially awkward and self-conscious, Ariadne remains quiet in the presence of others, always very afraid of what they might think of her. Most of her shyness stems from the very solitary existence she has lived up until adulthood, being raised by a self-proclaimed hermit of a father. Although the first six months of her life had taken place in a regular, boisterous family, much of that time has faded into lost memories for the girl, and she hardly remembers what it is like to be around real wolves. Entirely due to a lack of experience in communicating, Ariadne is often unsure of what to say to others, frequently opting for not saying anything at all rather than embarrass herself by responding with something silly and unnecessary. Easily flustered, she tries to avoid confrontation, knowing that what she truly thinks will rarely ever come out true and tried, but rather stuttered and uncertain. She enjoys remaining quiet and simple in the background, always something you notice but don’t pay attention to. Shyness is a point of embarrassment for Ariadne, and she’d love to become more confident but her heart and mind are unfortunately quite set in their ways, and it’ll be difficult to make her become more outgoing. Around Dyre she was able to be more like herself, and is always hoping that she’ll find someone else that makes her feel as comfortable as he had, and let more of her real personality come about.

Loving. Ariadne has a big heart, and she lends it out to anyone who needs it. Completely accepting any kind of type of wolf, she has no prejudices and holds no disgust over anyone she meets. She has a kind of personal understanding of everyone that allows her to be completely loving, even when others might be mean or harsh towards her. Although she is shy and constantly concerned over her own self-image, she never sees the ‘wrong’ in anyone else, and will embrace anyone and everyone who wants that kind of embrace. This also stemmed from growing up alone with Dyre, a wolf who is particularly difficult to live with. Ariadne is very accustomed to dealing with her adopted father and his strange ways, loving him completely despite all his flaws. This now carries over into her other interactions with all strangers she comes across, not seeing their personalities as something that has to be picked apart, but rather enjoyed.

Anxiety. Due to her near-death experience involving a river when she was just a pup, Ariadne has some issues with anxiety and fear, which can sometimes get the best of her. Almost deathly afraid of water, she will avoid entering it at all costs, and although she wishes to stay away from it completely, water is an unfortunate necessary for survival. She makes sure that she has complete control over the situation before she will go near a deep or fast-moving body of water, and if it isn’t deemed safe by her standards, Ariadne will not approach it. This counts even for ice-covered bodies of water during the winter, because the idea of the falling through the ice and becoming trapped underneath it, drowning, is even more fearful for her than just falling into a regular lake. Stemming from her father’s heritage, she has bad bouts of paranoia, and while these normally limit themselves to her encounters with water, they can affect her at other times and instances as well, leaving Ariadne wrought with depression and fear that can cause her to completely hide within herself. Thankfully however these attacks are few and far between, and have to be brought about by something particularly disturbing to the female.

Ariadne was third born to Keoto and Remedy Aralashie Kringle on the island of Zoarenta, into a mountain pack called Auvrea. Her parents loved her very much, but she disappeared around 6 months of age, and was never seen by them again. It had all happened one bright, sunny autumn morning, when Ariadne became a little too bold for her own good, and wandered away from her family, forever...

She had woken up early as she usually did, but the rest of the family wouldn't wake from their slumber, not even with her poking, prodding and whining. Her parents and her siblings ignored her pleas and told her to go back to sleep, just for a little while. So Ariadne, listening to her parents obediently, tried to slide into dreamland, but she just could not fall back asleep. Rising quietly, she made her way out of the den, careful not to disturb the now sleeping family she was leaving behind. She had never intended to go far, or to even go by herself. She had just wanted to sit outside the den and watch the rising sun, waiting for the rest of her family to wake up and join her. But youthful curiosity and impatience lead to Ariadne wandering away from the den and down the mountain, playfully chasing fallen leaves and trying to find the brightest yellow one that she could. Because most of the trees on the mountain were pine and did not she their leaves in the winter, she eventually left Auvrea territory all together, completely lost in her endless curiosity, no attention paid to the direction she had gone or come from.

It was her stomach that finally reminded her of home. As she suddenly felt hungry, her eyes looked up from the ground and saw where she was, and Ariadne was sent into a panicked kind of shock, not recognizing anything about the forest that she was surrounded by. It was filled with different trees than home, and the smells were loud and obtrusive, and absolutely nothing like what she was used to. Attempting to calm down she looked at her surroundings and thought of her options. It was still early morning, and she knew her parents wouldn't be up and looking for her just yet… but she was so very worried about getting in trouble when they found her again. Calming down slightly, she decided that she had to be the one to get home first, before Keoto and Remedy even knew she was gone. She thought she might follow her tracks, but the forest had hidden everything… the fallen leaves were blown about and covering her tracks, and even her smell was muted and hushed under the crushing fragrance of the dying leaves. Being completely lost, Ariadne didn't know where to start, but decided to rely on her body: she was thirsty and would first find a stream or a creek… and then maybe she could follow against the current… that would lead her back up the mountain… right?

Although she was young and inexperienced, Ariadne managed to find the river that would, in her mind, lead her home. It was her yellow brick road, her sudden light in the middle of the darkness of being lost, and she went up eagerly to its banks. However, those dainty little paws and shaky excitement left her unbalanced on the edges of the rushing water, and as she was leaning down to dip her muzzle into a shallower puddle of water by the edge, the crack of a snapping branch sounded behind her, causing Ariadne to jump out of her skin… and right into the river. Although the place she had fallen into wasn’t particularly deep or fast-moving, her thrashing and struggling moved her into the dangerous part of the rushing water, and she was swept away by the current. Having only splashed in very shallow ponds before this point, Ariadne had no idea how to swim, and continually fell under the surface, struggling for air and survival. The current rushed her further and further downstream, her cries barely heard over the roar of the water, as she was swept completely away. And just as she was about to fall under the water completely, giving up on even trying to fight her destiny, there was a loud splash behind her, and the sudden touch and grasp of teeth at her neck, and then pulling, fighting, against the water. Before long she was suddenly on dry, unmoving land, her lungs gasping, and her last sight of a hazy dark form hovering above her, before darkness stole the edges of her vision, and she passed out.

It was a long time before she woke once more, and when she came to, the ground was soft and pliable, and the air smelled different, salty, and full of wet moisture, but from what she could tell, she was still on dry land. Utterly confused, the young pup tried to roll over and stand up, but her little white legs were still too weak for the action, and she simply fell into… sand? Her aquamarine eyes had blinked, fuzzy, on the earth beneath, having never seen anything like it before. But what was even more confusing was... how did she get here? Shouldn’t she be dead, drowned? The sudden sound of footsteps behind her caused Ariadne’s head to whip around, making her a little dizzy even lying down, and there she saw her savior… someone tall, black-dark and handsome, and utterly terrifying. Trying to flatten herself into the ground, she stared up at him, completely scared out of her wits again, trying to understand what was going on. But he didn’t say anything. Stepping forward he dropped a dead rabbit in front of her paws, staring at her with his yellow eyes, before laying down just a few steps away from her, his head turned away though his eyes remained glancing over at the small white girl, as if checking on her. Smelling and seeing the food in front of her suddenly set Ariadne’s stomach on fire, and before glancing cautiously at the stranger, she settled in for her dinner.

Dyre was his name. At first, that was the only thing he told her, as he fed her and nursed her back into health. Ariadne was quiet as well, cautious but grateful to this strange hero of hers. She had asked, at one point, where they were and whether he knew of her family… whether she could go back home. But he had simply shook his head, just once, before leaving to go hunting. After having a small cry, for herself and her now lost family, Ariadne accepted the fact that she would be living with this stranger, and that this would be her life from now on. Their relationship was simple, without much talk or feelings. He was a loner through and through, not desiring a pack or family. He was also gruff and grumpy, but Dyre accepted the sudden, unexpected gift that had been placed on his lap without any complaints, and looked after her as if she was his own, an extension of his being. It was only after a few days that the male told Ariadne that they would be swimming the ocean, and after having a small fit, being entirely terrified of water at this point, Dyre simply grabbed her by the ruff of her neck and crashed into the water, despite all of her squealing. The swim was long and left Ariadne a nervous wreck, but they made it safely to the land on the other side, and from that point on, lived a quiet, simple life between the two of them. She tried asking a bit about Dyre’s former life, before she came along, but he never gave her any answers. Instead, he let her talk for hours on end about her mother and father and sister and brothers, knowing that it was a way for her to keep them alive, and stop the fading memories from disappearing completely. She grew up with Dyre, slowing watching as he became softer, kinder, with her, Ariadne herself becoming hardy and resilient, growing with a beautifully kind heart, though holding much shyness and caution when it came to other’s of her species, as her and Dyre lived entirely on their own. She never found out what Dyre held against the rest of his species, but she accepted him all the same. Now fully grown, she’s reluctantly left Dyre in search of her family. It almost broke her heart to leave the only father she truly had, but he understood her desires, and remained in the valley they had called home for nearly two years, waiting for her eventual return, but understanding that she might not come back. With a heart wrenching goodbye, Ariadne ran all the way from Dyre to Torva, uncertain of where she was going… and what she would find.

Although she has no knowledge of what happened to the rest of her family, Nova and Ares have both survived into adulthood, while Kael's history remains a mystery. Their father, Keoto, was slain in a fight with a mother bear, protecting Nova, who had ventured too far away from home. Nova, after returning to her home, discovered that her mother had been murdered, by Ariadne's brother, Ares, while the rest of the family had disappeared. Although Ares claims to have done it to taken Remedy out of her suffering, Nova still blames him unconditionally for their mother's death. Now the Aralashie Kringle family is broken and separated, and although Ariadne doesn't remember her family very well, she still wishes to find out what happened to her them.

Year 4: January
- Leaves her adoptive father, Dyre, and wanders into Torva, in search of news of her family.
