Season: Winter      Month: December

Breeding / Birthing: Year Round

There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

The Order of Ciro
The Order of Ciro is a strength of warrior wolves, whose righteous hearts protect those who cannot protect themselves. They fight for what is right and moral, declaring war on that which is unfair and cruel in the world. Whether it be a lone wolf or a pack in need, they have the Order of Ciro on their side, and the Order is proud to be there. They often do not ask for anything in return.

All wolves are welcomed equally to Ciran borders, whether they seek shelter, or to join Ciro's ranks. Ciro is willing to help make the weak strong, and give their support. Wolves may be protected, and may learn without officially joining, but members may never insult the pack's purpose.

OOC Information:
Feel free to suggest new things for Ciro, whether you're in the pack or not. We will give it an honest looking-at.

Torva has some wonderful artists, and one of them created some Pack-Specific Tables that every Ciran is allowed to use. If your new character has joined Ciro and you're waiting for someone to make you one, or if you're in the mood for showing some pack-spirit, feel free to show off your Ciran pride.

Please Note: Missions are being re-worked and re-written, to be launched again when we are satisfied that they will provide opportunities for active threading.

What's This?
The Order of Ciro is a band of wolves who depend on others to give them missions. They can have a network of intelligence on their own, but will often be given requests from other wolf packs that are too busy or stressed to do it themselves. Whether the missions are internal or external, they will be displayed on the bar to the left, as well as whether they are taken or not. Missions can be as simple as doing a patrol, or as gallant as protecting a fugitive of war. To see more details on the missions available, Click Here.

I Want to Take a Mission!
Cool! If you see a mission that you're interested in, you may go to This Page, Fill out the quick form, and we'll get you set up.

I Have a Mission to Offer.
We can do this a couple of ways. You can either have a short IC meeting with the leader or the next highest rank available and tell them that way, or you can PM the leader instead. Either way, if the mission fits the ideals of this pack, it will be added to the list.

How do Missions Work?
Missions will always, in the end, be recorded as whether they are completed or not. To this end, each mission will be given its own goal, which must be accomplished in order for the mission to be marked as completed. Goals will be as vast as the missions themselves, and are inflexible.

What Are Overseers?
Sometimes, there are missions meant for Apprentices or to test someone. Overseers will often be that Apprentice's teacher, but that can be changed upon circumstance. Overseers are meant to make sure the Apprentices are safe while they try to see their mission through, thereby proving the Operative as worthy of their position, or a promotion in some cases.

Because this pack lives in the desert, this meter will be used to tell how well they are fairing this season. Red; Dying, must move or disband soon. Orange; suffering, but living. Green; Doing well, able to survive easily.

The Order of Ciro
Positions

Notes:
• Wolves may change professions as often as they like, and may stay in any profession as long as they like. In fact, having many different talents may cause Ciro to create new tasks specifically for that character or skill set.
• Challenges consist of the act of challenging, the acceptance, and a test that is befitting for the position being challenged for. Unless otherwise agreed upon, an herbalist will not physically fight for their position, for instance. Challenges may be issued during pack meetings, but may never be conducted during them.
• Apprenticing has a lot of potential story-telling capabilities, and allows your wolf to gain a close relationship with at least one other wolf before you start working your way through the ranks. You may choose to start with a basic task, however, instead of apprenticing- especially if you have your eye on a position, and want your wolf to start proving themselves immediately.

Alpha/Alphess:
Their job is to coordinate the rest of the pack. In the Order, the Alpha or Alphess is to keep track of all tasks that are passed along to those underneath them. They are valued for their ability to think fast and keep the pack alive, both in a physical sense and in an events sense. They are also responsible for keeping the pack together, and make all the big decisions.

Beta:
The Beta is the Alpha's back-up. They are in charge when the leader is gone, and when the leader is present, they are to make sure nothing touches him. The Beta is the disciplinarian, and in order to gain so much power, they must gain the Alpha's trust. Chances are, they are as loyal to the Alpha as the Alpha is to them.

Basic Tasks:
Otherwise known as 'tier 1' tasks, these are the basic tasks that any pack member will start out as. These are the first levels of progression in any line of professions. Pack Members may stay here, or try to earn their way to higher places.

Advanced Tasks:
Otherwise known as 'tier 2' and 'tier 3' tasks, these are promotions from the base tasks, earned through time, demonstration, negotiation, or a rank challenge. These new titles show that the wolf has exceptional to masterful skill, and is a force to be reckoned with in their chosen profession.

Side Tasks:
These tasks are not necessarily things that a wolf in Ciro will focus on fully, but may take on as hobbies or alongside their main task. Some tasks are circumstantial, such as being a Mid-Wife. Apprentice is here only because it is a step before a basic task.

Pups:
Puppies are not considered to have any job. The young ones are encouraged to watch their superiors closely and learn what they want when they grow up.

Omega:
The newcomer wolves, usually just accepted. New and often undecided, they don't have their positions in the pack yet. They are expected to help take care of the rest of the pack, often doing odd jobs like running errands between other pack members and diffusing tension. Some Omegas are also wolves who are not officially part of the pack, but who are under the Order's protection, called Wards.
Diplomat Professions

Emissary
A messenger between Ciro and the other packs. The Emissary with be responsible for conveying the Ciro leaders' message and wishes to a pack. However, there is a lot of clever thinking and charisma involved with the Emissary position as the wolf is often sent to consult with another pack to avoid war or ask for an alliance.

Advisor
The Advisor is leader of all Emissaries and has the cleverness and charisma that has been fine-tuned through experience in the Emissary position. The leaders trust the Advisor's political opinion above all wolves, especially in times of crisis. They will consult with the Advisor to resolve a course of action for the pack or come to a solution for a problem.
Warrior Professions

Warrior:
A basic fighter who might be sent out on missions to help other packs, from protective muscle to a messenger. Expected to have an apprentice when there are apprentices to be trained.

Paladin:
One rank up from Warrior, they have proven themselves as extremely loyal and strong, as well as talented in battle.

Phoenix:
The best of the best. They work as commanders under the Alpha/Alphess and Beta(s). Should the pack grow large enough, they may have their own division of wolves to direct during difficult times.
Scout Professions

Skreeleen:
A basic scout who has to be good at paying attention, with far-sight, and lacking a fear of heights. They will use the cliffs of the Plateaus to watch for danger, and warn the pack if it approaches. Preferably colored like the ground to blend in, and patient.

Watch Wolf:
The most advanced level of Skreeleen. Very hard to accomplish. Known for their amazing eyesight, in both day and night, their patience (climbing up and down the Plateau is dangerous), and their ability to blend in.
Tracker Professions

Trackers:
As the name suggests, they are expected to be skilled at tracking, using the soil and wind to their advantage and easily pinpointing the location of other animals. They are used as search and rescue teams and to keep tabs on unfriendly wolves. May be deployed in times of need to work undercover.

White Eye:
Though their name suggests blindness, White Eyes are known for knowing the land so well, they supposedly don't even need to open their eyes. They are master Trackers, and their powers of observation are formidable. White Eyes can not only read the land, but they can read other wolves.
Shaman Professions

Sages:
The herbologists of the pack, Sages know their plants. This is not limited to healing, however. Although the best Sage will know how to both hurt and heal with their poultices and poisons, there is always the possibility that they only know one side of plants.

Shaman:
Master of Sages, identifying every plant by it's leaf, scent, and touch after years of experience in searching for herbs and medicines. They are the master healer of the pack. Shamans have gone beyond their Sage title by healing the pack both physically and emotionally. Should a pack member be troubled or traumatized, the Shaman is the wolf to mend all their troubles.
Mixed Professions

Sentinel:
Sentinels are not only valued for their strength as a warrior, but for their stealth abilities. Usually somewhere comfortably in the middle, they are neither too heavy of foot, nor too light on force.
Side Professions

Hunter:
The Plateau has its resources, but they are not as plentiful as the forests elsewhere. All pack members are considered hunters, due to this scarceness. Only wolves whose sole, skilled purpose is to hunt will have this on their tasks list.

Mid-Wife:
Though possibly not seen until far later in the pack's future, a mid-wife is chosen by the mother to nanny her children when she is out.

Apprentices:
As the name suggests, apprentices are taught by an assigned wolf, who will make them learned fully in the ways of their task. Apprentices may only be apprenticed to basic tasks, though their teacher might be a higher form of that task. Ex. Apprenticed to Warrior, but taught by a Paladin.

Assassin:
Though it leaves too much room for underhanded actions, they may one day be necessary. Should Assassins ever be employed, no one outside the pack would know it, and they certainly wouldn't be easy to pick out of the pack. May be deployed in times of need to work undercover.

Tester:
The tester's purpose is to test newcomer wolves by seeing if they can take orders. They are suspicious of everything and everyone. If they suspect a pack member isn't doing their job, they will test them. For instance, if the Beta can't knock the tester down or make them behave, the Beta isn't worthy.
Omegas

Wards:
Wards are Omegas who are not officially part of the pack, but have, for whatever reason, acquired a need to be protected by Ciro. In any situation, Ciro will offer their full assistance to keep a Ward safe.

Initiate:
Predictably, these are the newest wolves, just come to Ciro. They are undecided in their profession, and haven't been fully inducted into the Order. They hover here until deciding to be apprenticed or to fully take on a profession, often doing favors for other pack members to fill up the time.

Inside the Plateau

From various descriptions around the site, this is what I understand of the Plateau:

The Plateau is a giant construct that almost seems to carve its place out of the Southern Region, butting right up against Death Valley, and harboring a vast network of caves referred to as the Crimson Caverns. This area is both deadly, and a haven, depending on the seasons and where you go.

Areas

1. Plateau Shelf-
The most obvious part of the Plateau is the top. It's flat, giving the impression that this area might have been a mountain, but its top was cut off. This is where the Skreleens will watch the surrounding area, and hunters will take advantage of the diverse range of animals that come and go with the seasons. It is very dangerous to get up here, as only a few small paths provide minimal relief from the otherwise sharp drop-off.

2. Giant 'Worm Tunnel'-
While not so obvious against most of the Plateau's bulk, there is a pathway that passes from one end of the Plateau to the other. Described as being like a giant worm's tunnel, this path is a convenient path through the Plateau, and does not cut all the way to the top. Very little sunlight gets in here, but is the path to Ciro's dens and meeting place. It also provides a tactical advantage- if a large force were to attack Ciro, they would be forced to bottleneck at these entrances.

3. The Red Caves
While the Plateau is home to a network of vast caves, no entrances to this network are present inside the Worm Tunnel. Instead, there is one entrance that is almost too small to get into. Once you wiggle in, however, it opens up to the red caves. It's a fairly small network compared to the Crimson Caverns, but creates natural dens, often raised up off the ground and away from water that filters from the top of the Plateau. This is where most Ciro wolves will sleep.

4. Inner Cave
The Inner Cave is a giant construct, open and hollow. The only thing that disturbs its smooth walls are the stalactites that hang down, dripping water that has filtered through the top of the Plateau into little puddles. This is where the cool breezes are most prevalent, and so this is also where most wolves 'hang out' in the summer time. This is also where pack meetings are held. Since the Inner Cave runs right up against the Plateau wall, so much that there is a hole at the top of the cave, a call for the pack can even make it outside from here.

Seasons

Summer
Summer is the nightmare season. The hottest days in forests and plains become the focus of daydreams and vacations, because the heat here dwarfs them easily. Wolves must stay out of direct sunlight in the day during this season, or else risk heat stroke. There is not much more than dead shrubs at the top of the Plateau during this time, and even the pools inside the Inner Cave are small and disappointing.

Spring, Fall
Not as hot as Summer, but still warm, it's easier to get outside during the day in these seasons. While one is cooling and the other steadily gets warmer, there's still a fair amount of greenery on top of the Plateau, signaling the beginning and end of a window in which food is much more plentiful. Rain is still rare, but is slightly more possible. Wolves should still not stay out in direct sunlight during noon, though.

Winter
Winter, while it blankets all of the other areas of Torva in deep snow, is the season of plenty at the Plateau. Its top bursts with life- grass, water, shrubs, and even small trees don their bright green colors and come out to bask in the sun, which is a great deal less hot. Wolves may stay out in the sun all day if they want, and won't be in danger of heat stroke. This is the season to hunt and stock prey, and enjoy the season, for it is fleeting and soon gives way to the heat of Summer again.
