Year SixSeason: Winter Month: December Breeding / Birthing: Year Round There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

It was great to know how to hunt by oneself- lonely, but great. Terramorn had stayed fed on the knowledge and help that others had given her. Nearly a year and a half old, she was a pretty grey wolf, standing very short at 20", with a lithe boy made well for hunting rabbits. She held one in her maw now, trotting proudly with her head up, so that its long hind legs would not drag on the ground. At least this one had not joined in some nonsensical idea of rebelling against wolves, as Terramorn had once had the unfortunate experience of running into.
Now the young wolf's pawsteps brought her to a shallow pool of warm waters. In the budding months of spring, she could still feel the cold, which had once made her miserable on restless nights where she could not dream. But now the chilled wind's vain attempts to cling to this world were diminished to a nuisance, and in this place where the waters were very warm, they were all but forgotten.
At the edge of the pools of water, Terramorn stopped and lay down to enjoy her rabbit. Being small, she may have needed less food to sustain her, but she still wasn't exactly a master hunter. The young wolf hadn't eaten lately, so her stomach was calling out obnoxiously for food. Carefully, she ripped away the layer of fur first, in the strange fashion that she did, and then bit into the rabbit. Her tail wagged with pride and joy. The only thing that could make this day better was company.

Raven has been walking for awhile, her paws felt sore and her muscles felt weary but she doesn't stop to rest in this place where the water gushses into the sky from the ground. She feared that she will lie down and the water would burst out of the ground below her. She had never seen a place like this in her travels, even though she was fearful of the ground below my disappear she could not leave this place.
The moist in the air made her fur feel wet and it clung to her body, which made her feel self concious. She wasn't know to be the one who cared about what she looked like butshe knew that maybe others can see her scar on her hip. Even though she wasn't self concious about her looks the scar is one thing she dislikes about her appearance. But she ignored in her uncomfortable fellings and continued on wanitng to see the wonder of this place.
Feeling thirsty she goes finds a place to drink, probably a place where the water does not boil and burst from the ground. When she finally finds a pool of water she believes is safe to drink from, she then notices a wolf lying down at the edge of the pool with a rabbit. She stopped in her tracks suprised, she thought she was alone, but she had guessed wrong. Nerves overcame her and she didn't want to approach the water for a drink, scared she might disturb the wolf. Her mouth felt parched, she didn't not want to go find some water in this place so she steeled herself for whatever and approached the waters edge.

Sooo sorry I didn't respond! I completely forgot I had even started this. What is a matter with me? Lol.
Water in the air made it difficult to scent things properly, but the breezes did bring Terramorn's nose a gift. What was it that would make this day better? Well, it had just arrived. With geysers muffling sound and a muted scent making its way on a sluggish breeze, it took the small wolf a moment to notice the company that had arrived, and a moment longer to pull her silver snout from her kill. Licking her chops, she gazed curiously at the newcomer for a moment.
Then, all at once, Terramorn leapt up and bound toward Raven, stopping a few feet away with her front end down and hind quarters up, in the way puppies do when they want to play. Her white tail swung side to side, making her butt wiggle a little bit. Ears perked up and yellow eyes bright, she gave a little joyful bark.
"Hi, hi! It's so nice to see another wolf! I wasn't sure what I was going to do, eating all alone! I should have caught something else! But I guess I couldn't have predicted you would arrive..."
Her excited words slowly diminished into slow mutterings, and her tail stopped wagging for only a moment. However, the energy came back to her, and she stood up, happiness again apparent in her. As curious and sometimes cautious as Terramorn was, she hadn't seen another wolf for quite some time, after the disbanding of Nix'rio. Therefore, her energies were unbound. However, chances were she was going to startle this shy wolf before.
"Oh, sorry to bother you." She said, sitting and trying to contain herself. "My name's Terramorn. What's yours?"

It's alright I understand :)
She was suprised when suddenly the other wolf sprang up and came towards her, the sudden motion almost made her runaway but she was able to control herself. She stared at the other wolf, she still had a paw in the air for her next step before the stranger came towards her. She stood there staring at the wolf, she watched as the other wolf was so friendly to a stranger. Putting her paw down she smiles at the wolf and wags her tail to show she was friendly.
She listened to what the wolf said, she listened to her talk about how nice it was to meet another wolf and catching something. Smiling at the wolf "no it's alright I just came here because I was thirsty, I'm not hungry" She lowered her head seeing the other wolf was small and smiled again at her.
She saw that this wolf had lots of energy, but her throat felt parched she headed for the water. At the edge of the pool she lowers her head to lap up some much needed water. Even when drinking she listened to what the other wolf talk. When the wolf introduced herself as Terramorn, Raven raised her head from the water, water streaming down her muzzle she turns to face the Terramorn. She tried to look brave, but her emotions were tightly wound up all she could do was smile and tilt her head a little to the right "Hi my name is Raven, it's nice to meet you Terramorn"

For a moment, Terramorn wondered if she had gotten in Raven's way. After all, the wolf had only come here to get a drink, and Terramorn had instead jumped in front of her, barking like a puppy. Well, she was an adolescent, after all. Not truly a pup, yet not truly an adult. The young wolf was fine like that, though she wondered if the darker one was playful, or more calm-natured.
"It's nice to meet you too, Raven." Terramorn responded, a little quietly.
She thought for a few moments, seating herself on the warm soils that were here. Tilting her head to the side, she considered Raven, whose fur matched her name well, and whose eyes made Terramorn think of the skies. For a moment, the young wolf wondered if Raven had been in a dream of hers... perhaps as a... raven? The little joke almost made her giggle, but she decided not to. Under the circumstances, it seemed she had frightened this shy wolf. Terramorn wondered why she wasn't the one being all quiet. Perhaps it felt just that good to see another wolf.
"Pardon me if I'm asking too much, but is something wrong?" She spoke finally, straightening her head. "You seem a little... tense."
Perhaps it was ironic that Raven was tense. They were, after all, at the Geysers. As long as you knew where the geysers were located, you would be able to stay away from them, and instead wade in warm, relaxing waters. Perhaps Terramorn should suggest it. Or perhaps it would be too assuming of her.

She looked over Terramorn's pelt, a stark contrast to her black pelt. Terramorn's pelt reminded her of something but she can't remember it. She tried to reach out to it but it kepted slipping through her grasp. She remembers a silouhette something about it made her feel safe but she felt the distinct feeling of loss and sadness. Finally giving up on finding out what Terramorn's pelt reminded her of. Sighing to herself, she decided to think about something else.
She saw some of the lively personnality she just saw slightly disappear, she thought she had offended this wolf. Looking closer she can recognise that the wolf wasn't an adult yet but older than a pup, she was an adolescent. She tried to calm her nerves, this places already made her feel uncomfortable now thinking that she had offended Terramorn made her feel more uncomfortable.
When Terramorn asked her what is wrong, she sits down on the ground noticing the warm soil that felt comfortable to her. Looking at Terramorn she immediately understood the change of behavior from before. Trying to look friendly "Oh it's not your fault I assure you" lowering her head and looking around "it's just that this place makes me feel uncomfortable with the water exploding from the ground, and I'm just a nervous wolf, this place and my emotions make me feel kinda of tense, I'm sorry if it made you feel like you did something wrong, let me assure you that I do like the company of other wolves."
She smiled at Terramorn to show there was nothing wrong. Lifting her head up again, the warm soil beneath her makes her want to lie down on it. Giving herself this, she lies down on the warm soil feeling it on her stomach. She also did it to show Terramorn that she was alright and show that she was calming down. Closing her eyes a moment to relax. She reopened them and looked at Terramorn, titling her head she wondered about something and decided to give voice to that question. "Terramorn if you don't mind me asking something, but why did you come here?" she hoped she wasn't introding or offending Terramorn.

Still calmer than before, Terramorn settled for a mildly happy showing, her tail wagging at an easy pace and her ears up and at attention. Her eyes never lost their brightness. The young wolf, though she worried that she had scared off the dark one, was very happy that she had not, in fact, done this. A part of her wondered if Raven was acting in order to please her. But that would be silly... wouldn't it?
"You can usually tell when it's going to explode, and where from." She commented. "They only come out of specific places, so it's not random."
Remembering she wasn't done with her rabbit, she turned to trot over to it. Grasping the carcass in her mouth, she took it a bit closer to Raven so she could lay down and finish eating. Not that there was much left.
"Is there any way I can help? To calm your nerves, I mean." The young wolf asked.
There were a few moments of silence in which Terramorn was content to finish off her rabbit. Again, she demonstrated her strange habit of stripping away the fur before eating away at the meat. It was something she had seen the humans do over and over again, and had found that it was more tasty without having to wrestle with those light, soft tufts getting in the way.
Terramorn lifted her tinted muzzle when Raven asked her question. For a moment, the youth had to think, licking her chops to get off the stains. Then she tilted her head, a small frown adorning her features.
"I dunno why I came here. I just kind of wandered in. It was warm, I guess, and after winter and all..."
The subject was worthy of a shrug, if only wolves used those.
"What about you? Did you wander in?"

When Teramorn told her that the water exploding from the ground wasn't random and only happened in certain places. This information calmed her a little, not have to worry about water bursting from the ground beneath her very own paws.
She watched Terramorn go and retrive her rabbit from before and return to finish it off. Raven didn't feel hungry just tired, she has been walking for a long while snd her muscles just need a break.
When Terramorn asked her is there was anything she can do to calm her. Shaking her head "it's alright I just need a moment to calm down, then I will be alright." She smiled at Terramorn, she was already calming down, the warm soil made her muscles feel happy and content.
She puts her head down on her paws. She watched Terramorn eat her rabbit, she watched her stripping off the fur that's an odd way to eat your food but should I be the one talking about odd, I talk to raven's. She closes her eyes for a moment, she listened to Teramorn answer her question from before.
When Terramorn asked her the same question, she opens her eyes and looked at her. Thinking about this she didn't have a clear answer "hmm well just like you I wandered in here, I travel and so my travels ended up bringing me here"
Closing her eyes once more she savored the warm soil. "this warm soil feels comfortable, doesn't my muscles were tired before and now they are completely relax" she mumbles. She felt sleepy, but she didn't want to sleep just yet. "You know Terramorn your pelt reminds me off someone but I can't remember who exactly" she did not know why she said that, probably the warm soil making her jaw so relax that it made her want to talk.

The soil here was indeed warm. It calmed down Terramorn's happy energy so much, she was no longer inclined to wag her tail, even lazily. She still kept her ears pricked, though, and did her best to pay attention to everything around her with her bright eyes.
"Hm..."
Terramorn thought for a few moments, pausing with what was left of the rabbit and looking up at the sky. She wondered at things, like her flighty mind always did. When those thoughts lit upon something that really made her think, she looked down again, as she often did, to take that thought and voice it into the world. Sometimes it made things more real to her. Because of a puphood where she was constantly ridiculed for believing in things that didn't exist, she had a habit of wanting to confirm things with others.
"Have you ever wondered if our paths were pre-planned or not? Like, do we make our own destinies, or were you and I supposed to meet right here, right now?"
She looked down to listen to Raven's words. They were strange. In fact, it was like something Terramorn would say to someone else. Often times, other wolves reminded her of dreams, or characters from those dreams. Her dreams were strange enough as it was, but seeing wolves in real life that reminded her of wolves from dreams... Now, that was worse.
"I remind you of someone? Now, that's a switch. It's usually the other way around. Sucks that you can't remember who. Do you at least know whether you like them or not?"
Her own jaw felt looser once she was done with her rabbit and pushed it away, opting to lay down, her muscles relaxing. This place was dangerous. The thought crossed her mind, but she thought it was a silly thought. How could she be suspicious of a place as relaxing as this?

She lay there part of her wanted to sleep but part of her wanted to remain awake just in case. She took this moment to think, she thought how Terramorn pelt reminder her of someone, and about what she's gone through.
She listened to Terramorn's question about destinies. She left her head on her paws and thought about it "Hm maybe, maybe not sometimes its hard to think that certain events are pre-planned" thinking about this she thought about everything that had happened to her and to think that it was all destined to "but I like to think that we can make are own destinies, maybe certain events are planned and maybe some aren't, who knows" shrugging her shoulders at this she. She returned to relaxing, part of her did not want to think that everyone she lost was destined for that to happen to them, so she tried to calm her mind.
After a while she didn't realise that her eyes began to drop until suddenly she noticed a flash a black feathers cross her vision. The sudden movement made her raise her head suddenly. She looked around quickly but didn't notice any black winged creature nearby. Must be my imgination or something shaking her head to clear it, she hears Terramorn's speak.
She thought about it for a moment, "I actually don't know, I think this wolf you remind me of was part of my original familly..." she trailed of for a moment, reminded of that event "when they were killed" suddenly her emotions went into turmoil she lay there trying to control her emotions. Unable to she quickly looked away from Terramorn hoping she hadn't just offended her, she tried to control the tears that had begun flowing down her face, she did not undestand why speaking about this had ripped open a huge wound. She tried to calm herself down, to rein in these emotions. Once she had control and she stopped crying she looked back at Terramorn "sorry about that" she smilled at her showing that she was fine "I don't know maybe this wolf was a sibling or someone important to me but I really don't know" She looked at the ground, she tried to think who this wolf was but every time she remembers about that day and she felt the overwhelming burst of emotions she had before begin to rise up.
Deciding to stop thinking about she places her head back onto her paws. She felt sort of numb from what just happened, that she sort of zoned out the world around her. She made sure that to pay enough attention if Terramorn said anything else.

(I hope you don't mind. I technically did a little bit of god-modding by assuming how your character reacted to her own words.))
Terramorn nodded her head. She liked the idea of being able to change her own 'destiny' as well, whatever that was. It was a much better option than being helpless on a current. The young wolf had learned before that she was not alright with being helpless.
"...when they were killed." Raven said.
Terramorn's eyes went wide, and she lifted her head a little bit, ears fully showing Raven her attention. Without being told such a thing, she couldn't have guessed that a tragedy like that had occurred. How could such a thing have happened?
She could do nothing but watch as Raven's paws scraped against the loose soil as her muscles tensed. The black wolf's jaw tensed in another attempt at control, and she eventually turned away. As if this would hide her emotions. Terramorn didn't think well enough to look away as well, her eyes big with compassion.
Once she had gained control, the dark-furred wolf looked back at Terramorn and managed a smile, telling her she was fine. Terramorn no longer bought it. There was something tearing this wolf apart on the inside, and she felt she couldn't talk about it because it would burden other wolves. This young wolf knew how that was. She had her own worries.
Terramorn got to her feet. Her hind paw kicked away the remains to the rabbit so she wouldn't have to smell it so bad in the morning when the warmth and water helped it decay. Then she walked closer to Raven. Turning, she huffed onto her side, leaning against Raven. The young, silver wolf curled up into a ball, tail laying over her snout.
"I used to have a family, too." she said finally, through the fluff of her tail. "I remember them. I was adopted by humans who lived out in the wild with the animals. My birth family abandoned me. So I lived with the humans and their dogs. Mother was kind and patient. She used to tell a lot of stories. Old Scratch was impatient, but wise. All the other pups were mean to me, but..."
Her voice became so small it was difficult to hear.
"I miss them."
She paused here, glad her tail was covering up her tears. She didn't know if Raven was even listening anymore. The soil was so relaxing. Still, though. Terramorn was used to people zoning out when she started talking. Even if she was talking to herself, she didn't mind so much.
"I'm sorry." She said dully, finally. "I'm sorry we had to lose family. I can't even remember what happened to my people. It's just a big blank for part of winter and most of fall."

It's alright I don't mind.
She lay there, she tried to not think about the past, she didn't want to feel this pain, that usually happens when she remembers her past. Even through this she suddenly feels a pressure beside her. Snapping out of her zoning out she lifts her head and looks over at Terramorn beside her.
She listened to Terramorn speak about her past. When Terramorn mentions human, Raven suddenly stiffens up. Suddenly she has a flash back, she remembers a man holding a shiny long object. Fear took hold of her, her body suddenly starts to shake she couldn't stop shaking. She felt the scar on her right hip felt like it was burning. She could not hear the rest of Terramorn's words she was in total fear. She didn't want to remember it. She tried to close her eyes but she can still see it. Trying to hide from it she lowers her head and places her paws over her head, trying to make it disappear. She didn't know if Terramorn realized what was happening, but she didn't care she wanted the memories to stop.
She didn't know why the mention of humans made her act this way. She hated these feelings, she wanted to stop but as much as she tried she could not stop them. She cried out not caring at the moment what Terramorn thought about it "PLEASE STOP!" After crying out she begins to whimper out of fear and sadness. She did not know if Terramorn had heard any of this, she didn't know if these words have left her lips or were only in her head.
To stop it she started to shut herself away, away from the world around her, from her own memories. She knew this was rude to do to Terramorn but she didn't want to relive those nightmares. She felt the everything slip away from her until she felt nothing. She felt numb but relieved that the memories had stopped.
Once she felt safe enough that she won't have another episode she began allowing the world around herself to come back into focus. She hoped she hadn't made Terramorn scared. Neither did she know how long she had shut herself down for.

Terramorn had only intended to help. She had hoped that her words would assure Raven that she was not alone in her suffering. however, she seemed to have done something horribly wrong. Not only did the young wolf's words not calm Raven down, but they seemed to make her panic.
All at once, Raven began shivering and shaking, her eyes showing that she saw a terror that no one else was capable of seeing. Everything in Terramorn's senses screamed for her to leave. It was a way to get rid of the hair-raising feeling on the thick of her fur. Still, she couldn't just leave this dark-furred wolf all here on her own, terrified by the visions in her head. Was it just Terramorn, or were they starting to leak onto her psyche?
She shook her head, still partly fluffy from the winter, and tried to clear the images from her head. Having much more practice in such things, she was more successful than Raven. She distracted herself by rising from what she had previously thought would be a comforting position, and stood over Raven. Fervently, as if the action would help at all, she began licking Raven's head and ears. Some latent mother in her knew that this was a way mothers would treat their newborn pups to make them breath, by roughly licking them. Not that this was what drew Raven out of her shaking, but after her shouting and everything, it was almost frightening to hear the black wolf go silent.
"Are you alright?" She whispered once Raven seemed to have stirred to the world again. As if she was worth any sort of protection, she looked up and glanced around to make sure no one else was about. "Perhaps we should move to some place safer."

Once she was completely calmed down, she looks over at Terramorn. She knew that what just happened had frighten Terramorn it even frighten her as well. She lay there a few moments to make sure she was fine.
Getting up she shook her fur, trying to relieve all the stress. Once she was done she looked over at Terramorn. "It's alright I'm fine now" she knew that Terramorn probably doesn't believe her but she felt fine now. She looked around, she saw no problem with this place "no it's alright this place is ok" looking around again she then noticed a raven sitting in one of the trees. She took heart of its presence, she felt comfortable with the raven nearby. Looking back at Terramorn "I'm really sorry about that, it's just that when you mentioned humans I remembered that my whole familly was killed by a hunter" she looked away for a second not because her emotions where going out of control again but because of what humans meant to Terramorn.
Looking back at Terramorn "I don't remember it exactly what happen because I was young but I remember the terror, the fear and confusion when it happened" She didn't not know why she was telling Terramorn all this, she hasn't told really many wolves about this. "After all that I only have two things that reminded me of that event, a scar on my right hip where I got shot and being all alone." She lowered her head, her story isn't one of the best ones out there she had lost so many she cared about.
Raising her head back up "I don't know why the mention of human set me off like that, I've heard other wolves talk about humans before but I've never had that type of reaction before" She glances at the raven sitting in the tree then looks back at Terramorn hoping she would understand and not think it was her fault that it happened.

(I love this connection between the two. However, this thread is getting kind of long, and I haven't been replying to you as fast as you deserve. I promise they'll meet again. :) ))
Though it took an effort, Terramorn separated herself from Raven and sat, slightly shaky from what had just happened. No, she didn't believe Raven was alright. In fact, the youth's personality caused her to want to make it right.
It troubled Terramorn somewhat that the mention of humans was what had caused such distress. She knew there were bad humans, just as there were good ones. It was the same with wolves. But while the silver-pelted youth had grown up with generous humans, it seemed other wolves had only known of the ones with weapons and ill intent. It made Terramorn sad, and she could see that Raven knew it.
She listened quietly, sadly. Alone. It was something that Terramorn had felt since she had traveled to Torva. She had never been alone before, actually. Ever since her mother had abandoned her as a newborn, she had been picked up and cared for by her humans and her resultant brother and sister wolves. That life she remembered strongly. And then, just like that, there was no one.
"I'm sorry." Terramorn whispered. Perhaps Raven would think the youth was blaming herself, so she continued on. "No one should have to feel that. It's horrible."
Her form, once making an extreme effort to be happy, was now under some kind of weight. She walked a few paces from Raven, circled the spot, and lay down. Suddenly she felt tired, and the heat from the ground and the steam from the waters was only helping to lull her into sleep.
"I'd better sleep. I've been up for a while." she explained aloud before closing her eyes.
