There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

Cadmon panted as he ran up the trail that led through the mesa. He had been running ever since he felt the memories begin to overwhelm his mind. He found that it was easier to sort through all the mess that was his past when he ran. He could hear Hythyr's advice to run ring in his head. He wanted to get better at fighting. He wanted to grow stronger. If it took running at every chance he got, he would do it.

He watched as the sun set and the moon began to show more vividly. The stars were beginning to poke through the darkening sky with each minute the sun set. He panted harder as he felt more of his energy leak out of his paws as he pounded the ground with his pads. But he wouldn't stop. He would stop when he got to the top of the plateau. Almost there! he thought, Just run a bit farther! But he wanted to stop. His lungs were on fire. He hadn't run this far since he'd run from his his pack...

Cadmon roared at Fraoch as the large wolf threw him on the ground, "YOU KILLED HER! YOU BASTARD! YOU KILLED HER!" Cadmon snarled as Fraoch struck at him. Cadmon didn't flinch. His rage wouldn't allow him to. He wouldn't back down from this monster. Fraoch saw this and looked surprised at Cadmon. He growled to his lackeys. Their snarling faces approached him and Cadmon closed his eyes as the first set of jaws opened to attack...

Cadmon hacked up blood. The red stuff was dripping everywhere from him. From his nose, ears, and mouth. It was just a regular beating. But it felt worse that time. Worse because he had no one to take it for. There was no one that could make him feel better this time and rub horsetail and yarrow on his cuts. There was nothing anymore. He looked back at his pack. The trail of blood was behind him, leading back to the center of the pack area. But at this point Cadmon didn't care. Tears fell from his silver eyes as he looked ahead. At that time he didn't know the direction he was headed in. He just knew that he wanted to get away. His legs stung with cuts, but he lift his paws, putting one in front of the other. He walked faster and faster, until he was running. He had to get away! He just couldn't take the pain anymore.

Cadmon trotted to a stop. He was at the top of the plateau now. He looked up and saw more stars light the sky. It wasn't completely dark yet, but he could see a few of the brightest ones shine. His face grew somber, "Trocaire always loved stars." He let himself rest a bit. He would catch his breath an then start shadow sparring.

How do ye know that ye can.....trust me...If ye had a chance to change yer fate....would ye..?

Monster I have become.....

Silverpelt was high again. The moon revelling the iridescence which crawled underneath Osiris's very skin. Her paws swiftly darted across from rock to rock, climbing higher and higher. Ontop of a step rock-hill there was fresh grass and palm trees. And in the middle was a large fresh water pond. Here she loved to sit and relax. Her was her favourite place to unwinde apart from the Willow Pond. The darkness shrouded her, making her nothing more than a large, muscular shadow. She was quiete as she ran, her tail out behind her like a russet plume. The only thing which glowed as bright as the stars were her eerie, fire orange eyes. Staring determinedly ahead she slowly paced her self down to a quick stride. A shadow blurred at the corner of her eye, it was another wolf heading in the same direction as her...she would fight to protect her erea.

" Tha' bleedin' scoundrel! I know 'im! He be tha' grumpy fellow at the Willow Pond!" She muttered angrily in her own language. How dare he step foot in the closest place I call me Spiritualbound?! When he's not lookin' I'll pounce on 'im! Show 'im how ter really fight!" Her thoughts raged on angrily, tensing her muscles, she leapt with a spring and landed perfectly and quietly. Not even her abnormally long claws. Her hackles raising, she followed him from the shadows, each time he slowed down or pricked his ears she would slow, drawing her self back in the shadows of the night. Pouncing from rock to rock, she managed to get a look at his face, he had scars all down his face and body. He was very small, making Osiris feel like one of her giant Dire Wolf ancestors. Changing her mind, she leapt on to a higher rock towards her special place. She was thirsty. And she couldn't be bothered tracking this wolf all night, he wasn't much trouble. Besides, after a while he didn't look like he was going to go to her special rock-oasis. Sitting down under her favourite tree. Looking up she saw the great chain, the cave of souls and the star ladder..she could almost feel her Da watching her from above in Valhalla. He once had a deep russet-grey pelt. As she looked up now she could see a red star shining above her, just where she sat. And next to that red star was Skaarsgard. He was not on the Rungs of the Starladder, which ment that no one would die tonight, she hoped.

After several long minutes of gazing at the stars she got comfortable under her tree and prepared to dream walk. But first she needed to do something, something that every Outermost wolf must do before going to sleep if said wolf saw the Starladder that night. Oh! Of course! How could I 'ave fergotten? needed to howl. Sighing, she got and stretched her legs. Standing erect, her head tipped back with her vocal chords prepared and her maw open, she sang. What she were howling about no one knew, she just hoped that that annoying, selfish wolf she met at the Willow Pond had gone away. The clouds had begun to shroud the moon when she finally stopped howling. Curling up again, she irritably tried to go to sleep again. Al tension in her shoulders relaxed. She allowed her mind to wander the imagination and mysteries.

Da! Where ar' ye? Da!" She cried. Osiris couldn't stand to watch her little sister cry out. The fire blazed around them. Strange yelping blurred her ears. Osiris stood protectively over her sister, growling. She had been training to fight ever since she were one, and she now had her claws extended with Cougar teeth. Slowly the yells were growing louder and more bangs cried out. A shadow loomed over them but Osiris didnt see. Her fur pricked as she felt the presence of another beast among them. The beast kept over them with a growl, it was Da! "Run Nia! Run Fire! Go find your mother and brother!" her yelled to her. Branches creaked and snapped everywhere. They were charcoal black but glowing red. The flames steadily rose higher. Her Da lunged at a Twolegs riding a horse. A scream emptied from the twoled as he was bragged to the ground. Blood pooling from the throat. "Run Fire! Do as I say!" Her Da yelled again. She screwed he maw up again in a snarl. Picking her little sister up by the scruff she charged towards the rim of the flames. Nia screamed as Fire leapt over the flames, landing steadily on a branch that had not yet been touched by the hot tongues which licked everything it touched, burning it to flame. Her Da followed and landed gracefully were Fire only moments before had just been. Together, the three, Her Da and Fire raced through the blackness. Nia dangling from her mouth, whimpering.

Fireheart charged ahead of her Da towards her mum. Her mum held Nyroc in her mouth. He was mewling like a little kitten. Waving his paws about flimsily. Her mother had a different accent than the rest of the family for she was from the SouthWest. "He swallowed a lot of ash..I doubt he'll make it though the night...."

Fireheart woke with a start. The memory of her great escape with her family had made her hackles rise. At that moment she completely forgot about the wolf she had see walking by. A prescience alerted her, her ears pricked as she stood up, she hadn't been asleep for long. Her heart was pounding, someone was near, She didn't know who, she had forgotten were she was. To her the world was upside down and inside out. This irritated her, turning around she barked a warning. Her orange eyes blazing under the starlight. Her voice was horse so her barks could barely echo from the surrounding rock hills. Her ears lying back in fear, she gazed.

"She speaks." She thinks. She does. Her flash backs

Cadmon thought he might drift off. He had been running and practicing all day. He thought he would be exhausted, but the blood still hummed as it rushed through every vein in his body. His adrenaline kept his eyes wide awake and though he was panting hard to catch his breath, he didn't feel like sleeping yet. His body was still wide awake. Ever since he had practice with Hythyr in the woods, Cadmon had been running everywhere and sparring in every place he could. He could feel Hythyr's instructions becoming instincts. He knew how to react in an instant. Even when shadow sparring, Cadmon did not allow himself the slightest bit of hesitation when he was practicing by himself. He stood up and assumed his stance. He ducked and dodged a few times while he imagined a wolf leaping out at him from each side. He practiced going for the leg and the neck. He targeted the low parts of the imaginary wolf he was fighting. That's what his body was best built for. And though he was tired, Cadmon would not let his body give in. He wanted to get better and stronger, and his impatience to achieve this only made him more diligent with his practiced. When he had finished, he flopped on the ground panting harder than ever. He didn't just push his body to the limit, he forced his body to pass that limit and make a new one.

This time he let the adrenaline leave his body. He knew he needed rest and he didn't care what dreams invaded his mind. He knew he needed to sleep. He forced his lids to remained closed and waited for his mind to drift into the waters of sleep...

Cadmon tried to lift his legs, but the felt heavy like weights had pinned them down. He snarled and growled as he tried to move them, but they wouldn't budge. He tried to bring his head up but he just couldn't do it. He was pinned to the ground by his own exhaustion... Wait no! He was pinned down by chains under his skin. He yelped as he felt the chains squirm under his fur, torturing him and forcing him to stay on the ground. He couldn't allow this! He had to break free.

He got up, but not by his own will, but by the will of the chains for some reason. The chains moved his muscles so that Cadmon began walking forward. Finally he got to a small clump of cream fur, or what he thought was cream, but it looked red as well. Then he saw Trocaire's pale blue eyes as her marred face look up from the bundle of fur. Tears were falling from her face as she looked at Cadmon. At first Cadmon thought it was the fact that she had been physically abused that made her cry, but then Cadmon realized what he was doing. He was raising his paw, not by his own will, but by the will of the chains. The chains were aiming that same paw to strike her gorgeous face. Cadmon struggled, trying to regain control of his paw. "No! NO! Stop it! Don't hurt her! Don't you dare hurt her!" he begged.

Suddenly he felt something hot then warm hit that paw. The area lit up and he felt the muscles in his paw come under his control again. He felt another hot then warm thing strike his back, and then another, and another. Soon he realized he was being pelted by falling stars. And each star that hit him freed him from the chains that were controlling Cadmon. He also saw the shooting stars hit Trocaire, who was healing by their light.
What is doing this? Cadmon thought. Then he looked up into the night sky and saw a silvery she-wolf adorned with stars. Her eyes were the brightest of all the stars as she looked at Cadmon. She could see the line of stars that ran across her muzzle curve into a smile. "Mom?" The starry female opener her mouth to reply and...

A bark came out of it...

Cadmon woke up at the sound. What the hell? he thought. He got up and scanned the area. He growled, "Who's there?" He took his battle stance and pinned his ears down. He felt surprisingly well rested from his sleep. When there was no response, he walked around cautiously and searched the area further. He didn't find anything until he came to an oasis. He found the reddish gray wolf from the willow pond looking around. She must have been startled by something to. Cadmon didn't usually like to communicate with wolves, but he wanted to know the danger around here. Maybe this wolf knew, "You know what's going on here?"

How do ye know that ye can.....trust me...If ye had a chance to change ye fate..would ye...?

The black wolf Fireheart had seen before appeared again, looking exausted. He looked up to Fireheart and asked "you know what's going on here?" she merely gazed down to him. Her eyes blazing down at him. Fury welling up inside. She gently slide away into the shadows were he couldn't see her. Gliding silently behind him, she tensed her muscles. Her hackles raising, her paw-steps padded quietly. Angling her body, she whispered to herself..."Your fault....your fault...." Her thoughts clouded her sight. He resembled Rune...the Alpha of the of Nightfall..........She glared at him wildly. Her burning gaze burned through his pelt, she read his emotion. He was quite startled, but a little moody, up for a fight. Spreading her toes apart her claws stretched wide, they were extended with cougar teeth. Her spine arched threateningly, fur bristling. She was going to attempt a surprise attack...The recent nightmare had an odd affect on her, she seemed to go mad...

"If ye had the chance ter change yer fate...would ye? Her Da's wise words rang in her ears...basically egging her on to attack. On side of her tred to hold her back but the crazed rage inside of her wanted to kill, she thirsted for blood. she glared impatiantly. Her muzzle screwed up in a silent growl. Bunching up and sprang from a large rock. Gliding silently through the air..her front legs stretched out, her claws preparing to maim, her teeth aiming at his neck.

Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames, Blood and Flames. That was all she thought as she lunged, silent as an Owl.......

Her eyes and pelt burned as though on fire..She felt she were going mad....all her life she feared this. She had a condition which was not rare in her family. Roaring, she missed her target and whirled around, attempting to bowl him over... She threw her weight into her muscles, darting around her target to confuse him.

Attacks: Lunging at Cadmon, darting back and forth trying to confuse.

Defenses; none

Injuries: none but madness.

Cadmon saw the large she wolf turn to face him. All of a sudden, he saw her eyes blaze with some inner fury that Cadmon could not understand. "What the hell?" he whispered, his eyes went wide with confusion. He noticed a familiar glaze fall over the wolf’s eyes. He didn’t understand why it was so familiar at first. He hadn’t seen it anywhere. But still, he knew. He felt it in his own heart. He knew it was a look he always assumed when his vision was clouded by his memories. He didn’t know how he did, he just knew he knew. He stared into the wolf’s eyes and tried to reason with her. “Hey! Easy there. Snap out of it. You’re in Torva right now.” But still he saw the gaze take control of her whole being he heard her whisper, “You’re fault… you’re fault.” Oh dear Creator, I am screwed. He kept his eyes on the wolf. She became his whole focus. He assumed the battle stance Hythyr had taught him. He kept his legs apart and his ears pinned down. He also kept his head low. Hythyr had told him that his best advantage was his short height. He was small enough so that he could attack the lower areas of a wolf more easily. Of course he wasn’t looking to seriously injure this wolf, but he knew he needed to defend himself as well. “I don’t want to hurt you! It is NOT my fault! Snap the hell out of it! You’re in freaking Torva now.” Maybe it was a little unfair of him to feel annoyed at the wolf, but he was peeved that he had walked into the net of insanity of a half-crazed wolf Freaking brilliant! The wolf darted around him to confuse him. But Cadmon kept his eyes on her at all times. He saw her lunge for him and he dodged low while aiming his jaws for her feet.

Attacks: bite front right paw
Defenses: head low to protect neck, ears down
Injuries: none

How do ye know that ye can.....trust me...If ye had a chance to change ye fate..would ye...?

The other wolf pranced around dogging her attacks, Fireheart did the same. He attempted to bite her paws but she stood up on her hind legs and tried to slam her large paws onto his back. Onto her four legs again she tried to slam all of her body weight to dislodge him from the ground. Not seeing what he was going to do she crouched down, darting under her him and then standing up. Attempting flip him in the air to tip him on his back. Her eyes wild with fury, but her madness seemed to ebb away as she saw the hint of innocent fear in his eyes...her anger slowed, but she still tensed. Her glazed eyes began to see clear again...for the first time she felt true fear in her heart...her fur bristled uncomfortably as she prepared to leap over him and run across the rocks. She shook. Her muzzle still clenched with fangs bared. Her death grin began to fade. Her eyes twitched..suddenly she leapt, accidently, she whacked his shoulder. Ignoring this she flew over him and landed gracefully on a large rock. She ran, distraught. Tears leaking from her eyes. She was afraid.

"Great Skaarsgard! What 'ave done! I attacked some'ne innocent! I've become th' opposite of what I was trained ter be! An attacker! Not a protector! She bawled, her paws began to ach as she ran into the darkness. Her orange yes brimming with tears. Oh Great Skarsgard! Send me to Hell for me crimes! Her thoughts were gradually becoming clearer. The madness completely gone. If her victim attempted to follow she would just run, ignoring him. Her pupils as wide as saucers, she nearly tripped on a rock, almost falling of the edge into fast flowing waters. She gasped and turned another way, towards inland. Screaming curses and pledges to Skaarsgard she ran, tripping several times. Flicking her ears she thought she heard paw-steps but she ignored them.

Cadmon was confused when he found the she wolf's paws disappear from his view suddenly. He looked up and found that she was actually going to try and land on him with her forepaws. "You've got to be kidding me!" he growled. He knew that with her weight weight behind that attack, he would be stunned at the very least. He managed to roll out of the way just in time. However when he got to his feet he didn't have enough to prepare himself for when she threw her body weight against him. Cadmon was sent sprawling on the ground again. The pain stirred the memories he had sealed behind his shell. They threatened to come out. He couldn't allow it. He pushed the down again. Dammit! If I'm going to win I have to be faster! He quickly got back to his battle stance and prepared for the next attack. The female charged at him aiming her head low. Cadmon snarled and kept his own head low. He planned to head butt her nose but at the last second he went for her muzzle with his jaws, hoping the pain from it might snap her out of whatever memory she was reliving.

He kept low as she threw her head up as if trying to attack him. He teetered a bit at this but he managed to keep his ground. He prepared for her next attack when suddenly she saw the fierce expression fade from her. Cadmon held his ground just in case she attacked again. But soon he saw tears well up in her eyes. Then she cursed herself for attacking and said something about a Skaarsgard before running away, nearly knocking into his shoulder as she did so. Cadmon turned to watch her run. "The hell?" Part of him was a little pleased he survived his first fight, though it was a pitiful fight where he was mostly on the defensive. Another part wanted to chase after the girl to make sure she was all right. Cadmon couldn't help but feel sympathetic toward her and her struggles with her memories. With a groan he took of to catch up with her.

How do ye know that ye can.....trust me...If ye had a chance to change yer fate....would ye..?

Monster I have become.....

Her heart pounded as she increased spead. The innocent wolf she had attacked was racing after her! Out from her throat cam an un-earthly howl of rage and fear. She wailed like a banshee. Her legs felt like led for she had been running for so long. She leapt, landing clumsily on a steep rock. Almost slipping. Embarrassment burned her skin. Her hackles raised and her tail lifted. Her paws scrabbled as she pulled herself up and launched into a run. She sprinted, a few times flicking her head over her shoulder to see if He were still following. He was, or so she thinks. Suddenly she whirled around to face him. She was not going to attack but she was going to confront him? Slowly, she felt her eyes glazing over again, and her memory's of speaking Torvan leaving her steadily.

"Jaffa Crea!.... Djaipa Eaye! Noarine...Tokra.... Crea!....." She babbled to him. Her muscles tensed uncomfortably. Her night was not going very well and it was all her fault. Her fault fir going mad.Vestibulum ante ipsum primis,Tail lashing, she gazed at him intently, waiting for a reply. She had no idea what she were saying. But what she had said was this: I must have ice in my veins to do what I just did....every minute I expect the ice to melt..but it doesn't. It just gets colder and colder....but I welcome it. ice blazed like fire in her eyes, dancing and taunting her soul. She wanted to fight this madness but every minute, she grew weaker. Her nightmares threatened to overwhelm her and slaughter this wolf with one slash of her claws to his throat or perhaps just a kick bite to the life-giving artery. She tried to banish her thoughts with a shake of her head. Tears streamed down her maw, clouding her eyes, as iff she were in water. I'm drowning.....drowning in my own tears......"

"She speaks." She thinks. She does. Her flash backs

Cadmon raced after the strange wolf in front of him. He tried calling out to her. "Dammit! I'm not going to hurt you! I just want to get some things straightened out!" He wondered why he was following the crazed wolf. It was only a few weeks back that he would have left this wolf to her own delusions and scampered off to his own seclusion. But he had given what Hythyr said some thought. Cadmon needed to be braver. And if he was going to be a warrior fighting to prevent the same pain that had ripped him to shred, well then he should start helping others. He heard her release a terrifying howl. Dear Creator! What is happening to this wolf? he thought. He wondered what sort of terrors she had seen to make her act so irrational and insane. He wanted to help her, but to be honest, he had never been this crazy...

No that was wrong he had. And he had had no right to judge her for acting thus...

Cadmon was walking across the pack lands. He may have made it out of the pack dens, but if he really wanted to be free of his horrors, he would need to leave the territory altogether. He had managed to catch a scrawny squirrel on the way there. He didn't even bother to heal his wounds with horsetail or yarrow. He should have, but Trocaire's association with such herbs was to pain for him to bear. He just dealt with the wounds as best he could. He heard a twig crack. His instincts from months of abuse and experience paired with the pain of loss made him whirl around with a vicious snarl coming from his throat. The wolf in front of him was one of the young adolescents. The young wolf looked hungry. He hadn't caught on to the complexities involved with hunting in a barren land. Cadmon could see that the young one hadn't eaten for at least a week. But that bitter hatred toward Fraoch and his lackeys had driven Cadmon temporarily mad. He charged at the young wolf and pinned him down. Normally Cadmon wasn't a good fighter, but in his desperation and hatred he managed to immobilize the young wolf. The wolf was terrified at the this new insane Cadmon. Cadmon growled and said, "Are you trying to follow me, brat? You trying to be Fraoch's lackey, eh? Answer me!" The young wolf needed only to whimper for Cadmon to come back to his senses. He backed off of the wolf and shook his head. Damn he thought, Look at me attacking another scrawny wolf. I can't do this. I don't want to be this. I'm not going to be like those warriors back there. I'll be alone, but I won't be them. "Take the squirrel," he told the wolf. Then he left.

With this in mind. He faced the female wolf when she whirled to confront him. Cadmon skidded to a stop. He cocked his head to the side as she spoke some foreign tongue. He just stood there and listened. Not knowing what to do. Finally he just said, "Uhhhh... Want a squirrel?"

"Crankycrankycranky."
