Year SixSeason: Winter Month: December Breeding / Birthing: Year Round There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

This takes place right after the meeting, just posting this so we can hurry up and get Chess in the pack. XD Feel free to toss Maya in if you want; or you can wait for the pack meeting to end. Crappy first post. They'll get better, I promise! <3
The wolves were dismissed, gathering their bearings before either going off and fulfilling their tasks or heading toward the hunting grounds, where they would be able to feast for the first time as a unit. Fanul would lead the hunt in the grasslands, selecting his prey and guiding Alyxio to that kill... bur for right now, there were other things for him to take care of. There were two potential initiates to speak with.
Fanul looked toward them. One of them he already knew -- her name was Maya. They had met in the west a few weeks back. The other one approached him first. "You found yourself in Alyxio territory." She seemed shy, maybe even a little sheepish that she had trespassed, but Fanul was forgiving. "Well then, stranger," he said. "What can I do for you?" She did not smell of another pack, so she must have been a loner. Either that or there was a new power growing somewhere in Torva.
Fanul sat patiently, his head held high, his tail hanging at a medium length. He was the Virtuoso, the supreme ruler, but he was nothing more than a rogue lord who wished to foster greatness through talent.
"Fanul howls."

When the meeting finally came to an end and the other wolves had been dismissed, Chess quietly hurried to approach the leader, it was the other wolves' actions and words that made her believe so, he had to be, in her mind it made sense. He was like a much larger version of a fox in appearance, his pelt being distinguishing and lovely in its own way. It gave the girl somewhat of a weird desire to compare him and a fox standing side-by-side. The resemblance was truly magnificent, she was right to had deemed him “Mr. Foxy” earlier. She took in the scents around her, others with his as well. Said scents could be smelled by her at the base of the mountains. It was funny and foolish to her that she still persisted on the path that had Alyxio's smell all over it, it was an accident that she stumbled right into the middle of their meeting however. The female was grateful for them showing kindness by letting her stay. She could have turned back and took another path, but she hadn't.
A chestnut colored ear flicked to catch his words, as if to soak up his welcoming tone. She listened attentively to all that had to be said at the meeting and throughout she was actually contemplating on joining them, but of course it wasn't always that simple. Soft brown eyes were set upon him, eyes that held warmth and a peculiar nostalgia. “Alyxio? That's a fancy name. Did you come up with it?” Chess thought carefully about her words that she had just strung together. After all, they came from a nervous female. “Sorry, I'm not trying to come off rude, I'm a bit nervous...” The girl smiled, she was well aware that this was claimed territory, land that which didn't belong to her. She kept her head low but her senses high, she was naturally cautious and not yet used to the atmosphere. “I... Heard you being called Fanul, is that your name?” She nodded at him in sign of proper greeting. Gazing at him, she sized him up, looked for any sudden movements, and even tried to read his body language.
Perhaps he had no evil or bad intentions or any will to harm the dainty little wolfess, so she decided she could quickly gift him her slight trust, well at least enough to be able to tell her what her name was. She might have known his, why not tell him her's? “My name's Chess Verdandi, but you can call me Chess. It's mighty nice to meet you.” Saying that with a smirk, she sat down with him, though there remained some length between them. Chess paused for a moment and then took a short time to scan around her. Bright eyed and with a smile on her face, she wasn't so nervous anymore. “What does it take to join you and your beautiful family in Alyxio?” Being in a pack meant others ear lengths away that you could converse with, ones that could look out for you and you could look out for them in return. Yes, it would be nice to have somebody that depended on you for once... Other then your mother of course...

It was not uncommon that Alyxio drew new wolves from all walks of life toward the towering mountain fortress. Fanul believed that this land was chosen well, whether that decision was made by Cairo, Bohemian, Acedia or whomever ruled this gracious land when Caelius was formed. And now he stood upon this base of stone and wood, a proud leader who watched over his people, like a protective herder. Was he meant to become a king? Likely not, for the desire to run wild and free still rippled through his veins, each step he took like a whisper to begin the race with the wind. Pressing zephyrs and reckless thunder -- that was him, his resolution and his greatest journey.
Molten gold eyes studied the girl, deep pools of lava and silk strewn within his gaze. Her intentions and character made struck a curious string -- what a lively soul, she seemed to be, and still she was looking for a home to call her own. Fanul dipped his head in acknowledgement. "Alyxio is the name given by my mate." It was the name of the hero in the story that Antoinette first told Fanul when they had met. He was enchanted by her ability to weave tales and fortunes, and that was how they came to be, two lovers of different wings. "That is correct," he said in response to her next question, choosing to ignore her comment about being nervous. Perhaps if he addressed it, she would be even more so. "I am Fanul." Yes, that was his name, the only one he went by.
She then introduced herself as Chess. What a strange name, he thought. She must have come from a faraway land. "A pleasure," he responded, his voice low and rich, like that of milk and honey. It would entice many wolves to come to him to hear the ring of his smooth baritone. "Have you a talent? If you are willing to participate and hone such a talent, then you are welcome within these borders." Of course, she also had to be capable and gifted, but that was something that Fanul would leave for the assessment. And evaluation would be performed at some point if she chose to join. "What skills do you have?"

Maya silently watched the Alyxio wolves depart the meeting area. Each had a duty, a task, to be completed. Maya yearned for a purpose. For too long she wandered aimlessly, restricted only by the comings and goings of her body's needs. Her stomach would growl; she would hunt. Her eyelids would droop; she would sleep. She marked a few trees, indicating her trail so Sanura could find her if the latter found it necessary. Maya yearned for responsibility. The simplicity of her lonely life lingered for too long.
Maya listened intently as the other newcomer, named Chess, introduced herself and asked the essential question to which Maya hoped for an answer. What did it take to join? Not an ignorant question, given that different packs held their members to different standards. Fanul's answer? A talent. Maya's eyes widened in shock, but she quickly regained her composure. A talent? Maya had no special talents. She was a skilled hunter, an adequate tracker, a decent fighter, a mediocre herbalist, but nothing more. Her skills were those than any wolf should have and be adept at; she could do nothing special. A feeling of dread washed over her; her stomach twisted and turned and made her feel queasy.
What should she do? She could not tell Fanul that she had no talent, but she could not lie and say that she was something special. She emitted a huff of frustration, her breathed crystallized before her in the chilly mountain air. Irritated, she stood and shook the bits of debris out of her fluffy brown coat. She closed her eyes and inhaled deeply, focusing on her pounding heart and willed for it to slow down. She interjected before Chess could respond. "Talent? What do you mean, talent? Is it not enough to hunt, to fight, to heal? Must we sing and dance as well?" she questioned him calmly despite her irritation, yet she meant no disrespect to Fanul or his pack. "I don't think you want to see me sing and dance." she warned him, although the small grin that momentarily graced her features emphasized the tinge of playfulness in the tone of her most recent words.
"Maya howls."

Maya was an interesting character. She was defensive, suspicious, and clever, but Fanul saw through her facade -- she had a story to tell, one of death and pain, and fragile promises long broken. Even though their conversation at the pond had been short, the fox's intuition served him well, and allowed him to make judgments without the long hours of slow thinking. Although he enjoyed the process of mulling over ideas, gears churning inside his head, he also liked being able to make decisions without regret or remorse, a snap understanding that penetrated his thoughts into actions.
Of course, along with being the coarse woman that she was, she was also one to voice her opinions. Fanul's ears pressed forward as he listened to what she had to say, her questions of disbelieve strung with a light sense of humor. A smile was brought to his black lips, spreading upward in amusement. "A talent is a natural aptitude. Nothing less. If you consider fighting or healing or singing, so be it, to be your greatest strength, something you are willing to hone in Lemures, then you are welcome upon this land." The only "talent" that Fanul did not endorse was the ability to hunt. All wolves should partake in this exercise, for they were all predators who consumed meat; they should all be ones to hunt and forage.
"We have wolves from every corner of Torva and beyond," Fanul explained. "Ambassadors, Champions, Troubadours, Herbalists, and many of other skill-sets." The fox's smiled widened at her final comment -- oh yes, there was a place for her here. If she did not find peace with any task already offered, then she could become a comedian. "Then I suppose I'll leave that to Antoinette and Zitori, the entertainers." Was she interested in making this her home?
"Fanul howls."
