Aurora's head shot up from the grass as the doe the others were chasing was attacked. She growled. No time for tactics now. "Let's get 'em, Dimitri!" she shouted, breaking into a run at the buck, who was now bounding away with his remaining does. Aurora knew the challenge would be to keep up with the buck. She put on a burst of speed, tearing across the vargo. She was now running alongside the deer, but did not attack just yet. She snapped at it's heels, trying to turn it toward Dimitri. "Oi, Azren!" she shouted, her breathing labored. "Give me a paw and help get this bugger to Dimitri!"
A cry of pain made her turn her head. Alcyoneus had brought his deer down, but Aku was laying motionless. She considered stopping to help, but rejected the idea for several reasons. She needed to stay with this deer, she didn't knwo much about healing or first aid, and she doubted he was mortally injured. She didn't care for Aku much, anyway. She snapped again, and the deer finally began to turn. Now, she just had to hold her pace.

ooc:
Her arrival was untimely at best, yet her gait described nothing short of a calm demeanor as she followed the gathered scents of her kindred members. While the hunt was engraved into their kind’s genetics, the thrill of the chase and of the kill always tickling the back of their minds to be explored and achieved, she had done well to curb the desire to run along in the frenzied chase between the life and death of unfitting fodder. Rather, she was content to reside within the field and claim her role as guard in the absence of Nix’rio’s warrior spirits. Her strength was better reserved to act as a defense should their borders be breeched in the midst of a hunt, for there was no more vulnerable time than that.
She was not her sister, who would have wholeheartedly joined into the fray and been proud to bring back the heart of their quarry as proof of her strength and ability as a hunter. And she would have begged her reclusive mirror to join, to dance the hunter’s dance and feel the spray of taken life upon her muzzle with the taste of the killing blow.
But X’yrin was no longer among them. Her voice would not reach her ears and beg her to join. She had no steps to follow into the fray, nor battle cry to join as they provoked, stressed, and down their prey together. Perhaps this was the true reason that compelled the autumn woman to delay her arrival. She did not feel complete without her sister beside her, running and taking the kill down with her. Her could not imagine a hunt without the Exultare queen. And shameful as it was, she could not dare try to overcome this flaw. Rather… she would wait and watch downwind and keep the lands safe.

To Aku, it had felt as if he had waited his entire life to feel the excitement of a hunt; he now relished in the exhilarating feeling that all of the stalking and running produced. Before he could even think again, the lanky young wolf barked repeatedly. Watching his father with wide eyes, Aku danced around the flailing doe, snapping his jaws in malicious jest. One look from the earthen hued beast shook the boy, but he quickly shrugged it off and grinned. With his tongue lolling, and with his excitement reaching an all-time high, Aku flung himself at the doe.
’Hunting is like.. A game. It is a game of chance.’ This thought entered the boy’s mind as the doe’s injured leg collided into his open jaws. Firmly, he clamped down and began tugging and yanking the beast backward. ’A game that I will be the master of!’ in his mind, he taunted the doe and other deer. They would fear him. As the female collapsed, with Alcyoneus still latched on her, Aku pulled away for a split second. A single glance was thrown back, to look at the others as they started out on their mission to bring down other prey, and as he swung his head to look at his father as he finished off the deer, a hoof assaulted his left shoulder. Even with the doe on the earth, barely able to move, she easily threw the hardest kick of her life. It’s blow toppled the young wolf, but not before he screamed out in pain.
Dazed, Aku laid in silence, sheathing his eyes from the world. ’Am I dead?’ he questioned silently, an odd smile twitching his lips barely. ’No. No, if I were, I’d see her—. Why’d she leave, anyway?’ The familiar smell of his father entered his nostrils almost immediately after the attack, but Aku held his eyes closed. Would Alcyoneus care if he died? Did he still miss her like he did? In the end, it did not matter. The throbbing pain in his shoulder was almost unbearable, but the boy managed. ’She left us..’ Slowly, he opened his eyes to peer up at the large beast he called father, and a sheepish grin worked its way upon his face. ”Sorry..,” he whispered softly.
Before he could attempt to sit up, Alcyoneus snarled right in his face, and so he did not bother moving at all. Without having to say anything more, the beast stalked back to his kill, ravaging its throat until he severed its head from its body. All the while he did this, Aku start at him, and he was met with a dark glare. By now, second thoughts were not of the young wolf’s nature. As he bit back a cry of utter pain, he jumped up and made his way toward his den, with his tail tucked and ears flat.
Maybe, just maybe, he’d do things right one day. For now, he had failed.
