Year SixSeason: Winter Month: December Breeding / Birthing: Year Round There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

Maya listened intently, desperate for a piece of information that would strengthen the fire within her heart. Thus far, nothing about the pack intrigued her. The pack had fallen apart when the fire rained. Despite any chaos, a pack should stick together. For her, it was the first indication that this pack would not suit her. She needed unity and stability, for her physical and especially mental well-being. The second tidbit of information bothered her as well. In her opinion, leaders did not claim the throne and make a pact to work together, especially if the two weren’t mates. They should fight, prove their worth. Maya did not believe in diplomacy when it came to leading a pack. She had decided – Aro’Lahn was not for her.
She nodded appreciatively to Nahrus, knowing that it was a privilege to be given information about a pack. Her gaze fell upon Fanul, who picked up where Nahrus left off. Maya listened curiously, wondering what the fox had to say on the matter. A look of surprise graced her features, only for a moment, before she wiped her façade clean of any emotion besides polite interest. She meant no harm in it, only that she did not expect him to want to pay a visit to the pack, especially if he did not intend on joining it. But why? Her question was answered when Fanul spoke again. Maya’s tail twitched in anticipation. Mountains? Rebuilding? That sounded like her kind of place. The high altitude warranted a sense of protection and safety. Mountains implied a degree of solitude and separation from the rest of the world, but not so much that a pack would be completely isolated. Yes, this was where she would go.
“I am interested in Alyxio.” She stated with a sense of poise, though the increased tempo of the thumping of her tail deceived her. “Most recently I’ve dabbled in the art of healing, although I have been trained as a warrior. Please allow me a chance to prove myself, prove my worth to the pack.” She spoke earnestly and met his gaze briefly, in order to convey her wholehearted interest in the pack, but very quickly averted the look of her golden eyes. She was no threat to his authority, and so she would show him that through submissive behavior. Maya had no intention of groveling – Maya never groveled, nor was she a kiss-ass, however; she did want to earn his favor and would do what she could to gain it.

“Now? Looking for a new place to call home, if such a place even exists.” Maya responded with a dark chuckle. “I settled down with a pack and stayed there a while. I learned quite a bit about fighting and herb-gathering, as there was no one to teach me either growing up. I left because area lacked vegetation. We trained on this vast plain. Sea of gold, that place rippled in the wind much like the ocean.” She gave a nod in the direction of the watery expanse not far from where they spoke. “The caves in which we slept kept me lonely, damp and cold. Not a lovely combination, mind you.” She elucidated, her gaze hardened as she looked out onto the ocean. Somewhere in the distance, inland of course, lived that warrior pack.
It surprised her, when she reminisced of that pack life, that she joined it at all. Pack policy rarely encouraged diplomacy. Better to bite first and bark later, preached the pack. Diplomatic in nature, Maya preferred to verbalize with than physically confront another because her initial reaction would be to appease the other. Besides, no one taught her to fight, no one taught her to defend. Anything she learned before her second pack life she acquired through experience, often resulting in permanent lessons embodied in the various scars that marked her body underneath a thick layer of fur. Hunting she learned through starvation, self-defense she learned through surviving assaults from other predatory species. She learned how to find her own way after losing it again and again. Maya had tiptoed close to the edge of the cliff that separated life and insanity enough times to know that now her grip on reality was unbreakable.
