Year SixSeason: Winter Month: December Breeding / Birthing: Year Round There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

Ooc: For Icarus/Lokni/whoever can help with Augustine and being enrolled as a spy/assassin :)
Bic:
He was under fire. In enemy territory, the foreign scent surrounded him, assaulting his nose like the sparks from a gun. This pack’s particular smell swirled around his body, pricking at his pelt and twining through his nose. Yes, he was indeed in a pack land’s claimed territory. The wolf stood tall and stared around his new surroundings with a calculative eye. Open lands, mostly. Grass stretched far and wide, broken only by a trickling stream and, further on, sparse trees that eventually gathered into clusters and mini forests. It was an interesting choice of land…the wide open space likely provided for much game to pass through—but that came at a price. While he could see the benefits of frequent, nearby food, there was a serious disadvantage with the lack of cover—from the weather, enemies, etc. etc. But who was he to critique? He was no alpha. He wasn’t even a pack wolf—he was a simple wanderer, craving knowledge and challenge.
A feral fragrance of his own hung about the ends of his pelt like a red flag in the foreign territory. On the breeze, someone would find, not his own particular scent (though it was loosely laced beneath), but rather a bizarre mix of herbal and plant aromas. Earlier that day he had created a concoction for himself, which he rarely did. He’d collected the herbs the day before in anticipation. In a large leaf the boy had gathered water, and let it sit cupped in a small hole he’d dug in the ground. In the early morning hours he’d torn up the leaves and roots, spat them into the water, and then waited. As the sun rose across the sky and sent its steamy rays down to earth, the water slowly heated to a comfortable temperature. The essence of the plants began to seep from their veins and into the water, infusing with one another to create a harmonious blend that filled the near air. Augustine had sat, breathing in the lovely fragrances that he’d created. It was a mixture of calming remedies, something to unravel his nerves and loosen his mind. He felt like relaxing, like lazing, and he found it quite difficult without the extra assitance of the calming potion.
The wolf lapped up the homemade tea, letting its magic melt into his muscles. For the rest of the day he’d slept in a half daze contentedly. Now it was approaching sundown, and he felt awake and refreshed—so he figured he’d go research a little bit. Better yet, make things interesting. He wanted to meet a wolf of a pack, and he just happened to find this one first. So. He gazed around, curious as to who would find his herbal scent first, and how they were trained to react.

Icarus moved through the grasses silently. His patrol of Dieu territory marked a significant return to power, his purpose strumming its way happily through his veins. The summer sun heralded the return of heat and discomfort to the wolves of Torva, however it also brought with it a flood of prey animals and a promise of good hunting. Such was certain as bright orange eyes watched a forest of antlers clatter away from his presence, banging against each other to create a chattering war tattoo. The deer bounded like their lives depended upon it, away from the silver leviathan who seemed little interested in the herd of full-rack stags. Icarus was no fool – the memory of a bull moose slashing his chest open was all too fresh in his brain.
It was not long before the alpha had found his way to a stranger n his lands. Any other leader might have chased the trespasser out and asked questions later. Any other leader might have approached the wolf and demanded what they wanted, why they were here, what it was they sought. Any other leader might have extended the olive branch of welcome to the stranger, asking if they were seeking refuge from the dangers of the wilds. However, Icarus hung back. He was not intimidated by this stranger, but curious. The strong scent of powerful herbs clung to the heavy summer breeze, washing over the silver king as he watched silently from the grasses.
The lone wolf had stirred from a restful sleep and begun to move away from the site of his herbal experimentation. The man was tan and brown, dwarfed by Icarus. However, something about the stranger evoked a sense of respect in the Alpha. It was with this respect in mind that Icarus stepped from his crouched position in the grasses. Illuminated by the setting sun, silver fur turned to grandeur of gold. “My, my, just when I thought I never received any more visitors to my territory.”

Suddenly he was not alone. The wide expanse of grass seemed smaller with more company… and it also felt infinitely more elusive. The wind had been working against him, and this male had been able to hide amongst the long tendrils undetected. Perhaps this land had more potential for mystery than he'd anticipated. What with the breeze blowing his scent away, and similarly, the male in front of him, he was forced to rely on his poor sight. Regardless of lack of clarity, it was easy to see the brute was quite unique. It looked as if a wildfire had once swept across his body as if a forest, reducing everything to charred ash. And within his eyes embers still glowed, refusing to die and give way to the lifelessness surrounding them. The setting sun behind the male only provoked the fire-alluding appearance, flamed light singing the ends of his pelt, causing flames to dance in the wind.
"Your territory.” he repeated, pausing momentarily. “Then you are the alpha here, I assume,” the boy reasoned, dipping his head. Allow me to apologize, in that case, for treading on forbidden ground.” His head dipped lower to show his apologies, gold ears folding back momentarily. He noted a few, perhaps uncharacteristic, things from the alpha. For one, he addressed him (Augustine) as a visitor, rather than an intruder or rogue. For another, his hackles were not raised, his tail was not flaunted above his head, nor were his teeth bared. This ashy wolf was level-headed, amiable, and grounded. Mutual respect sparked from the male. His pupsitter had told him stories of a typical alphas reaction to trespassers...he'd seen it for himself with his parents. Chase away any unwanted fiends, and don't ask why they may have stumbled across your lands. So why was this alpha so drastically different? Curiosity pricked his intuition.
If you don’t mind my asking… what pack have I stumbled upon?” he wondered, meeting Icarus’s gaze. Your lands have a… unique scent,” it was something in addition to the smell of fresh grass and free wind, and even the collected scent of all the wolves gathered. There was an additional, underlying scent that Augustine couldn’t place… but it did intrigue him. Perhaps though, he reasoned, he merely hadn't experienced enough pack scents to understand that each pack had its own , rather special smell just like this one. Regardless, he found himself drawn to it. His eyes flickered across the male's face, awaiting either the answer, or denial from both the knowledge and access to the lands.
