There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

Waiting was torture. Ryth had only been here a few hours but it felt like a lifetime. Today he’d seen his son for the first time, and had been promptly dismissed. Hythyr was busy with pack progression, and Ryth couldn’t help but feel like rekindling a family was more important. Of course, Ryth had more cause than most to put family before packs.

He wished he hadn’t said to Caprina not to wait with him. He’d wanted to meet his son alone, but sitting here, just waiting, he could have done with her gentle company. The young wolf was full of stories, and was a wonderful distraction from where his mind might wander. Thoughts came unbidden of his past and the harder he tried to push them away, the harder they fought to be replayed.

It was a balmy summer in his memories, tension was running high in the pack with the deer herds so thinly spread on the search for water. The spring grazing was near depleted, and the hot weather was turning what was left to a dry husk. Prey was hard to come by, and when a herd was spotted, the Tryyl pack was suddenly racing the Kyltic pack for the prize. The two packs were in competition for everything; food, space, water. There were constant skirmishes when patrols met, and the last straw was dangerously close to breaking that summer.

Ryth had gone out ‘scouting’ for prey, a guise for meeting Snow in the next valley over. Their secret glade was shaded and still had a trickle of a stream, and Ryth caught a hare on his way there. The day couldn’t be better for the black wolf in his prime. Snow was waiting for him there, and they shared the hare in the shadow of an old berry tree. “What about ‘Hythyr’, for a boy” Ryth suggested, and Snow tilted her head pensively. Ryth couldn’t resist, and nosed her pale throat. His mate giggled, her laugh like sunshine on water, and the male wriggled closer despite the heat.

“I like it,” she said, tugging playfully on his as yet unmarred ear. “I thought of Jyslyn for a girl, after my grandmother,” she murmured against his ear.

Ryth gave a playful growl and caught her muzzle in his, licking at the corners of her mouth and then her nose, “Any name you decide will be perfect, Snow.” He grinned up at her, and rolled leisurely onto his back.

“You’d say anything to get your tummy groomed, wouldn’t you,” she laughed and reached over to groom his underside. Ryth nodded his agreement and closed his eyes as Snow teased out the tangles between his forelegs.

“Only because I get to return the favour afterward,” he admitted, basking in the glory of his mate’s affection. He loved to feel the little puppies that had started to make her sides bulge. She insisted it made her look overweight, but he loved it. He loved her. She had never looked so beautiful than when she was round with his pups.

So distracted by Snow’s nose in his ruff was the warrior that he missed the approach of another. The sound was subtle, easily mistaken for a bird or rabbit going about their business in the bush. Rylyyn had been trained in battle and assassination, just as Ryth had. They fought side by side, brothers in blood and arms. Ryth was usually the stealthier, but today of all days, Rylyyn had the advantage of surprise.

Like the hare Ryth had caught for Snow earlier, Rylyyn burst out of his cover with an enraged snarl. Ryth was up on his feet quickly, but not quickly enough. Rylyyn had bowled Snow over, and held her forcefully down by the scruff of the neck. Ryth’s emerald eyes turned dark with anger, and he was on his brother in a second.

The fight was brief, and soon it was Ryth holding Rylyyn by the scruff of the neck. He let go briefly to look to Snow, but it was a mistake. “Go! Snow, GO! I’ll catch up—” And then Rylyyn was on him and the fight began again in earnest.

The brothers clashed together again and again, teeth snagging skin, blood oozing from a multitude of wounds. They broke apart somewhere in the middle, circling to find that next weakness. Ryth’s ear was torn and bleeding, and his brother had a deep gouge in his cheek. “I should have guessed sooner, brother,” Rylyyn hissed, the fury in his gaze as hot as the summer sun overhead. “Your pelt has never been so tidy, traitor, I should have known you had a little Kyltic bitch to mother you. Did she nurse you from her teat as well?”

Ryth roared and attacked, his teeth knocking solidly with his brother’s muzzle. Rylyyn began to get more hits in that round. His blows were stronger, and Ryth was beside himself with rage. Again and again they came at each other, and it was only a brief moment of clarity on Ryth’s part that saved him. He remembered their sparring sessions, how Rylyyn would always feint right if he tilted his ear in a charge.

Ryth was ready for him, and lunged sideways into his brother’s dodge. His teeth closed on Rylyyn’s throat, and the two tumbled to the ground. Ryth was tired, and his grip was weak. It was all he could do to hold on as his larger brother thrashed under him. All he could think about was that Snow had to get away. He had to give her enough of a head start. His jaw was shaking with the effort of holding Rylyyn down, and he was soon so weak that he had to let go.

He stumbled away, ducking his head as he anticipated his brother’s counter attack. But it didn’t come. Ryth chanced a glance in his brother’s direction, but Rylyyn had not gotten up from where Ryth held him. The battered brother circled Rylyyn, expecting a ploy, but there was not a movement from him. Ryth stopped, staring at his brother’s chest. Not even a breath. A dreadful feeling chilled Ryth to the bone, and he approached as if in a nightmare, “Rylyyn?”

He nosed his brother’s maw, looked into his staring eyes. Soulless dead eyes. “Ryl?!” Panic broke his voice, and he shook his brother by the scruff, “Ryl come on! Get up Ryl!” He shouted. “Rylyyn, please! No! NOOOOO!” Ryth threw back his head and howled his grief to the skies. He fled, blinded by his own tears. Unable to think, just to run. Just run!

He had been running ever since. It didn’t matter what pace he was going, or which direction; ever since he had murdered his brother he had been running from the fact. Ryth came back to himself, years older now, sprawled on a rotten old oak tree with the patchy snow under his cheeks pitted by warm tears. Sitting up, he angrily scrubbed away the dampness with a foreleg.

Ryth dropped down from the log, wincing as his joints protested. He must have been sat still for quite some time. He dropped and rolled in a muddy patch of old snow, trying to chase away the lingering memories with the chill. Standing, he gave a shake, his pelt falling in disarray. The grizzled wolf looked to the base of the oak and sighed, “Never could look presentable without you, love.”

Hythyr's pace was quick as he trotted toward the oak tree. His mind was a flowing mix of emotions; anger, confusion, curiosity, relief, and was that happiness? Hythyr certainly wasn't happy at seeing his abandoning father was he? He shook his head. The man had abandoned them to the horrors of the forest! There had been so many times when they needed someone to protect them, but there was no one. Hythyr had to face his father on this. He looked up and saw the man standing there by the tree. There was a severe nervousness on his face, as there should be. Hythyr walked over to the tree standing over the spot where his mother lay. "You know, this is where I buried her. It's where she died. I watched her ebb away right before my eyes. I watch the disease literally rot her to death. The whole time she spoke to me, saying that I shouldn't blame you." His eyes flashed with fury as he turned his gaze on Ryth. "Tell me why I shouldn't. You weren't there to protect us then and if you were she would still be alive! Why weren't you there!? Why did you abandon us!? You should have been there! Do you have any idea what we went through because you didn't protect us like a father should! Why weren't you there then?! And why do you care now!?" Hythyr's body shook with anger. He had never so upset except when his mother died. The man in front of him was responsible for all the misfortune he had faced as a loner in the wilderness and now here he was, trying to win his son's favor. Is that why he was here? Was it because he heard his son had power now? Hythyr walked toward his father their emerald eyes locked together."Where were you all this time?" Hythyr felt his eyes tear up some from the pain of his past. Was this really how an Alpha should act? No, he couldn't blame himself for tearing up. He was a hurt son that was facing his father for the first time. He had to find out the truth.

White paws and legs hurried her after the bark furred man, Hythyr was going to meet his father and Zitori felt that she should be there, the Autumn wolf had said she would go with Ryth and it seemed right to her that someone should be there with the newly crowned Alpha. She remembered how he had pulled himself together when confronted by his missing father, but underneath his cool demeanour she worried that he was burning with rage. He had never mentioned his father to her, he had been absent from his stories and for him to suddenly appear, no it would not be easy for him.

Hythyr had travelled fast, but she knew where he was going and so following him was not to hard. She hoped that she was doing the right thing, she didn't want to intrude, their love was still so new and a pushy female could drive him away. She stopped at the edge of the clearing in front of the noble Oak, this was the resting place of his mother, and it seemed right that this meeting should happen there.

Angry voice floated into her ears, Hythyr confronting his father, so this was why he never mentioned his father, he had left them, abandoned them to the forest. It was clear now that Hythyr blamed his father for the evils that had befallen them, with his father there his mother would still be alive. Compassion flowed from the silver lady, it hurt to her see her love hurting like this, and this wolf, so like him in looks better have a damn good reason for causing this pain. Her anger surprised her, as she was generally a gentle soul, but to see Hythyr so torn by the others actions broke something in the mild temper of the lady.

She wanted to snarl and tear, to tell this wolf to leave and never return, but she knew that Hythyr needed to confront him and hear whatever excuse he had for leaving, so she bit down the feelings and approached slowly, quietly and sat a few feet from Hythyr, just so he would know she was there if he needed her.

Ryth felt the arrival of his son before he saw him. Something about his very presence satisfied a hole that had been in his heart since he’d lost Snow. It hurt him to hear how his son had suffered without him, but under it all, he still felt elated to even see him. Hythyr, his son.

The older wolf listened intently to every word, cringing away at the accusations. He had been a neglectful parent. He should have searched harder, taken more chances. Snow should never have fallen ill. He should have been there to look after her and his son. He could blame circumstance, he could blame the world for their misfortune, but he blamed himself. Hythyr did not need to do that for him. Snow should have blamed him too.

He wanted to cling desperately to the eye contact with his son, but he had to look away. His own eyes ran freely with tears – he was not an alpha, he did not to keep up appearances. He hardly registered the female who ghosted up to Hythyr’s side. She could almost be Snow with her pale coat, and Ryth would rather not think that Snow could see them now in his epitome of shame.

How did he explain? Was there really a reason worthy for his son? Every one he tried to form just crumbled. Nothing sounded right. “I was searching for you,” he explained, looking up then and resolutely holding eye contact with Hythyr’s gaze, so like his own. “I finally found your scent here, the day after Snow died. The earth was fresh, you’d found bluebells and put them on her grave – her favourite...” His voice choked on the emotion welling inside his chest. “I was too late. I finally found her and she was dead. My mate was dead and my son was gone,” he spat. There was anger in his voice, but it was directed inwardly, not at Hythyr.

“I’ve always cared, Hythyr,” the name rolled off his tongue. It was a foreign name to most, but not to him. He had suggested it, after all. “I just never had the chance to show you, until now,” he added softly, “I never abandoned you; I just couldn’t find you...” he trailed off, his expression so earnest as he fairly whispered, “I’m so sorry, my son.”

Hythyr could hear the pain in his father's voice. His expression softened some as the scruffy male spoke. He obviously cared for his mother and Hythyr. He said he wanted to be there but couldn't find them. This confused Hythyr. His mother and him didn't hide their scent while travelling as far as he knew. But that was the thing wasn't it? She could have very well been trying to hide from something. All that time in the woodlands wondering about simply aimlessly, were they truly travelling without a cause or was Snow steering them away from something. She never really spoke of her past to her son, not even mentioning his last name. She said it brought back too many painful memories. Hythyr never brought it up intentionally and had pushed such thoughts out of his mind. However, the reappearance of his father had rekindled the questions that had once burned in his childhood. He mulled over his thoughts for a moment before looking back up to his father. His anger had diminished and his need to know what had occurred had replaced it. "Father, I simply want to know the truth. Why couldn't you find us? Why were you and mother separated? Why didn't she tell me what had happened between you to? She always said it was too painful. Please, I need to know." It was at this point that he noticed Zitori's sweet scent in the air. The bark man turned and looked at her. He felt more calm with her around and he gave her a gentle smile."I'm sorry my love. I didn't mean for you to see me like this." He returned his gaze to his father, ready for the man's explanation. He had to know what had happened. Why did he have to endure such a hard childhood? Why couldn't his father be there?

Ryth, father of her love seemed distraught, his face glistened with his tears and his voice was choked with his emotions. He seemed not to realise that she was there so intent he was on his son, but she was not to know that she almost appeared as a ghost of the past to him, she had not known Snow and so did not know that she shared a pale coat with the lady.

"You never have to be sorry my love, I'll take you as I find you no matter your state." she smiled lovingly back at him, she would always be there for him she had decided, until her life left her body or he commanded her to leave, he had her affections forever.

She fixed her gaze on Ryth, maybe it was a little unfair of her, but she had a burning need to know why he had done what he had, why he had caused such pain. She wanted there to be no bad blood between the two but forgiveness couldn't happen until Hythyr knew the full story and his father told it, then they could both start to heal.

Hythyr was calming, and Ryth could feel the tension loosening between them. There was so much to explain, and it all hinged on explaining it just right. The grizzled wolf wasn’t sure how much of it he could tell his son without losing him forever, but Hythyr wanted the truth. First, he had to understand something, and the pale female by his son’s side might just be the key to that.

“She is your mate?” The question was rhetorical, it was obvious that Hythyr felt for her, and she for him. He hoped that feeling would help him to understand, “I was your age when I met Snow. She looked a little like you, you know,” he said to the female, a wistful smile playing on his lips as he remembered his own mate. “I knew when I first saw her that I would love her. She was a sweet wolf, a little shy at first until she trusted me but she must have felt that same connection between us that I did. We were born into different packs, and they were always at odds but we saw past that. We were loyal to our packs, but even though we knew they would disapprove, we still sought each other out.

“I was a ranger at the time, hunting small game and reporting back on large herds... Anyway, that was how I met Snow, and how we were able to spend time together. We would hunt together, eat together, run together. It wasn’t often at first but then soon I was out roaming daily. I couldn’t even go a whole night without her. We were almost inseparable, I always felt as if my heart was being crushed when I had to leave her to report back to my pack. You have to understand, I loved your mother, more than anything. I would do anything to keep her safe,” he paused briefly to hold his son’s gaze, making sure he understood.

“Our packs went to war the summer we found out that you were on the way. I couldn’t be happier that I was going to be a father, but I always knew we couldn’t have you when our packs were always clashing. We would have to strike out on our own, travel somewhere safe where we could raise you and our siblings without a conflict ripping us apart. We had a plan, Snow and I, we were going to slip away one night... But we left it too late. My pack found out about us, and I was labelled a traitor...”

Ryth swallowed, looking down at his paws. He couldn’t tell Hythyr yet, not about his uncle. He’d never told anyone before; he didn’t think the words would even pass his lips if he wanted them too. “I told Snow to run, but the pack was always on my heels. So in the beginning, I had to stay away, just until I lost them. But it took longer than I thought. By then, Snow had hidden herself away and even I couldn’t find her. I loved her, I loved her so much that I had to keep away for her own safety, and yours. I wanted to be with her so badly, but when you’re in love, it’s not your feelings that are the most important...”

He had never felt so old then, his heart was labouring yet he had not even moved. His eyes were still downcast, looking at Snow’s grave. “I abandoned you out of love, Hythyr. I did it all for love,” I killed my brother for love, he added to himself, eyes closing in pain.

His father asked him about Zitori and spoke of what had happened. Hythyr looked at her lovingly, knowing he would do anything to protect her. His father's words were heavy with sadness. However, Hythyr began to understand his father's actions. He didn't think he could ever leave Zitori's side the way his father left his mother. Hythyr felt he would fight anyone that came near them, but he nodded. It made sense for him to lead them away from his love. Hythyr thought about his mother. So she was running from something. His father's pack and likely her own were looking for her. She probably feared for her life and the life of the young Hythyr. He remembered that they were always on the move and she would never say where. Perhaps even in his youth she kept running and that was why his father could never find them. Everything seemed to come together now. The reason his father was never there, the reason his mother never spoke of her past all made sense now. He felt a slight bit of anger that his mother didn't tell him anything, but it quickly subsided. He turned his gaze back upon his father."I understand. You did what you thought was right and I can not fault you for that." Hythyr then began to lose his composure. His father came this far to finally meet him and what did he do? He tried to push him away! All that time he had spent hating his father was wrong. Hythyr should have listened to his mother. He rushed forward and buried his face in his father's shoulder."I'm sorry father! I didn't know! I should have trusted her! I'm sorry I pushed you away!" He no longer held any guise in his features. At the moment he was not the Alpha of Alyxio, rather he was just a son trying to reconnect with his father.

When he’d imagined meeting his son, he’d always thought he would feel... bigger, somehow. As if being a father would automatically make him not physically larger, but emotionally larger. Stronger. Superior was a word for it, but not in an egotistical way. He thought being a father would instil a certain strength and courage in him. It was hard to explain, but as Hythyr embraced him, he know that inside he was still himself. Nothing had changed, but that was somehow comforting. His son was with him, and it was normal. It was not being a father that was the different state. This was how things were supposed to be.

“Oh my son,” the older wolf draped his head over his son’s shoulders, “You had every right to push me away. The reason why I wasn’t with you doesn’t matter, the fact is that I wasn’t. But I’ll be with you for now on, if that’s what you want. I missed so much of your life, I have a lot to make up for,” Ryth nuzzled his son’s shoulders, reassuring him. The scent of him ticked his nose, and he realised he’d been worried that meeting Hythyr would remind him painfully of Snow. But Hythyr’s scent was far from hurtful. It was a magical mix of his own scent and hers, with something that was purely Hythyr mixed in. It was soothing, and for a moment he could feel the pain that he always held in his heart easing just a little. He might have lost Snow, but now he had Hythyr, and he could begin to make things right again.

Sage green eyes filled with tears of sadness as Ryth told his story, it must have been so hard for him to have to leave his love to try and save her and then to loose her, never to find her again. She wondered briefly if that was all there was to the story, but she had to trust that this man had told the truth of things. She sat still, wondering how Hythyr would take this news, could he forgive his father for loosing them? She knew Hythyr was the kind of wolf that would fight, would he do the same thing if she had been in danger?

She smiled and her eyes filled with tears of joy as Hythyr embraced his father, she was so glad to see father and son together and accepting each other. She had thought that maybe he would still be angry and tell his father to leave, but his reaction just proved to her what a wise wolf he was, she was so proud of him.

She sat quietly watching the scence and then quietly slipped away, back to the pack. She didn't want to intrude on this moment, father and son needed time to get to know each other again, she was sure that in the future she would get to know Ryth.

Hythyr listened to his father speak his comforting words. He was right, they had a lot to talk about. He turned his gaze back up toward Ryth and smiled. It was good to be reconciled with his father. His tail wagged as he spoke. "You're right father. There is much we need to talk about. I don't really know a thing about you. I'm sure you would like to hear what I've been up to. So much has happened since you last saw mother. I'm sure this might be disorientating." Hythyr wondered how it must be to see so much change in time he had been gone. The son he finally met was a full grown and an alpha. Hythyr wondered what his father thought of that. Was he proud or did he have an aversion to packs since the incident with Snow? What had his father been up to all these years? "What have you been up to all these years father? Would you like to know what I've been up to?" Hythyr wanted to know everything about his father. He felt that there was an empty space in his mind where what his father was like was supposed to be. His head tilted curiously as he face his father. It was strange; he had just met the man but already had a burning desire to make him proud. It was a feeling he was very familiar with. He had the same desire to fill his mother's heart with pride. He supposed it was something he was born with. He wished for his father to know his son was a good man. There was not much in the world that would make him happier.

Ryth glanced up as Hythyr’s nameless mate slipped away. He was glad Hythyr had someone to love, at least one of them would have a normal life. He smiled wistfully and sat back on his haunches, looking into his son’s emerald eyes. “Of course, I’d listen to every minute of your life if there were enough time,” he said, tilting his head. His son had pretty much been the only thing on his mind since he realised he was still alive.

The grizzled elder looked sheepish for a moment, knowing this was supposed to be father-son time but there was a burning question on his mind, one that had plagued him since the day he found Snow’s grave. “I’m sorry to ask, my son, but first could you tell me how it happened?” He asked, his voice quiet and strained as he gestured to his mate’s grave, “Was she... was she in pain?” In his moment of anger, Hythyr had said she had practically rotted away. The very thought that his Snow was afflicted with something made his heart churn. He should have been there. He really should have.

A lot had happened since he last saw Hythyr’s mother, and some of it even Hythyr himself was not alive yet to witness. Ryth would never know how his pregnant Snow had been during the flight away from their packs. It would always remain a mystery, those few frantic months.

The bark warrior nodded as his father asked him about his mother. He realized that he would want to know what happened to his mate. Hythyr's expression grew solemn as he faced the older, grizzled man."Of course father. You deserve to know exactly what happened." He was silent for a moment before speaking as to the events that led to her death."Mostly we just traversed these woodlands in search of food in our time as loners. Many times some bastards would attack us for our catch. Sometimes we would fend them off, sometimes not. As I grew older and stronger more often we would be able to fight them off with the both of us able to combat them. That's why when we had caught a few rabbits that we thought nothing of the small male that approached us. He was rambling and he didn't seem to know where he was. To our surprise he attacked us despite the fact we were clearly stronger than he. We chased him off without too much trouble. Neither of us were injured much and mother was only bitten lightly by the man so we thought nothing of it. A few days later she collapsed while we were walking along. It was a hot August day so I thought it was heat stroke. I took her under this tree and tried to cool her off. She didn't get any better. A few days in she was hallucinating, she spoke of you often. At the end of the week the bite wound began to rot as though she were decaying." Hythyr had to pause to regain his composure. "She told me not to blame you to the very end. It was the middle of the second week when she spoke her final words. She said that she was sorry for doubting you at times and that she still loved you. Lastly she told me not to blame you and that she loved me and then... and then she died. I don't know if it was painful but I hope not. I buried her here were she died because despite all the pain I experienced here, I still feel a strange sense of ease here as though she is watching over me." Hythyr sat exhausted from the weight of the story. He glanced up to his father. "I did everything I could but there wasn't anything I could do. I'm sorry..." Hythyr looked down at his paws dejected. It frustrated him that he couldn't do anything for her during her time of need. It was because of that that he sought out to assist others. Perhaps he was trying to make up for his mothers death.

He should have known; death was never pretty, death was never fearless. He should have been there, but it was a universal truth that you couldn’t change the past. There was nothing he could do to change it. He realised even though he had lost Snow long about he had held onto her in his heart so tightly ever since. He loved her, he would always love her, and perhaps he would never get over his loss but perhaps now that he had found Hythyr, he could accept it.

Infection was a cruel affliction, and Ryth knew that if he ever found the brute that indirectly killed his mate – if he was still alive – he would not be able to stop himself returning the favour. It was an ugly thought, to premeditate murder, but sometimes it was right and justly deserved. Snow had not deserved to die and even if the wolf that attacked her had been desperate, there was a part of Ryth that could be cold and merciless like the assassin he had been trained to be. Family was more important to him than anything, even his firmest of morals.

“Don’t worry, my son, you did everything you could,” tenderly – a little awkwardly – he ruffled his son’s forehead with his tongue. “She watches over us both; I feel it too...” He fairly whispered, eyes cast fondly to the base of the oak tree. With a sigh, he looked back to Hythyr. “Since I lost your mother, I have searched these lands far and wide for her. And then when I found her, I searched for just you. I never settled into a pack – never had the time, never wanted to – but these old paws have carried me far. I’ve seen a lot. I always wanted to explore a lot when I was your age, but I didn’t quite have this much in mind at the time,” he looked over his son, pride shining in his eyes. “But you, look at you. An alpha,” he chuffed, tilting his head to the side.

His uncle was heir to the alpha role, before his death. Ryth supposed that made him the heir now, but his pack had made it very clear they didn’t want him, and he didn’t want them. He was no leader. Hythyr must have inherited Ryth’s father’s head for leadership. He had won his position young too, and had been a just and fair alpha. “I heard what you said – about living for your pack members – is that true?” Ryth had a fundamental problem with packs, owing to the fact he’d been expelled from his own when he needed them most. If Hythyr really was going to look after each pack member as an individual, his boy must have inherited more from him than just his looks.

Hythyr chuckled some as his father licked his forehead. It reminded him of being a pup travelling with his mother again. She was always making sure his fur was straight and clean. As it seems without grooming Hythyr's fur becomes incredibly tangled and misshapen as well. However, unlike his father Hythyr made sure to keep himself looking presentable. He always looked to make a good impression on others and looks helped with that. He smile warmly as his father spoke of being watched over by Snow as well. It seemed to validate that his belief and assure him he wasn't just imagining things. He said he had searched a long time for him and his mother and Hythyr believed him. Despite the youthful glow in his eyes he could see the weariness in his father. He was beginning to get old, but at least he seemed healthy. Hythyr hoped his father would remain with him for a while yet. There was alot to be said between the two. Many stories to tell and many lessons to be learned. "All I did was explore from the moment I was born. It was fun seeing new places all the time. Even after I joined the pack I went out and explored. It's nice to have a home to come back to though." He chuckled and stuck his chest out with pride when his father mentioned his new position and he saw the pride in his eyes. Hythyr smiled at his father when he asked his question. "Every word I said was true. Those wolves are depending on me and I don't intend to let them down. I'm not foolish enough to think I'm some sort of messiah or an all-knowing being. I don't even consider myself to be a king like many others would. No, I am just a man with a responsibility to protect and lead his family." He couldn't hide the smile on his face even if he wanted to. He was proud of his new found family. For the longest time he had believed his mother was the only family he had and when she passed he had felt all alone, but now he had found a new family, one he had become a part of himself. He would protect them with every fiber of his being.
