Year SixSeason: Winter Month: December Breeding / Birthing: Year Round There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

Winter suited this one perfectly. All though a very hard season, when there was something to hunt, the big white male had a much higher kill ratio than during summer. He grinned as he thought of how he could relax, no sound made, equals no one knowing he was there. He trotted peacefully through the woodlands, the trees didn't make any sounds, there was hardly any wind. He picked up distance noises from forest animals.
A stench filled his nose suddenly and brought the white male to a sudden stop. He sniffed, and bared his teeth. This stench was oh so familiar to him. He stumped his leg down in anger of the memory. The memory of one Hythyr, beating him in a spar up in the Carpathian Mountains. Teeth bared even more as he felt the memory pass, the humiliation of losing in front of his sweet Dimitri. Heike let his lips down, and moved his ears around to listen for the fat ass that had pinned him to the ground. ”This will not happen again.” he whispered as he picked the sound of the dark male. He was rather loud in his movements, not as Heike, he grinned at that. Pack wolves never cared to walk in silence. Even the wind was on Heike's side for it was blowing at him, bringing him the stench. He silently picked up a slow trot, keeping himself just a little lower than usual, even harder to spot him now.
Soon the stench filled the whole air around him and the sounds of his walking filled the forest. Silently Heike moved after the sound, debating whether to stalk him, run him down and take him by total surprise, or to just follow him around and then revile himself. Heike was about to move in on the dark male as the wind direction changed slightly. He huffed quietly and ran back into hiding and circled around. Two things would happen now, either Hythyr would catch his smell and get suspicious, and might follow the smell, find Heike's tracks and follow them, eventually finding him, or he would not be to much on guard to pass it as nothing more than deja vu. Heike flew through the forest like a white ghost to get him self in the right direction, almost doing a full circle around the dark male before having the wind blow at his face again. ”Now stay in this direction.” Heike whispered as the dark male came into view again. The white male stood completely still, only his tail vibrating slightly as he looked out the dark males behavior.
"Heike stalks."

Hythyr came back to visit his old home. It had been awhile since he had been to the site where he had left his mother. He walked through his childhood home with his usual confidence, but also with an air of somberness. For a moment, he caught a familiar scent and he stopped. He took a look around for a moment knowing someone was there. He decided that he didn't care so much and continued on his way. He made his way over to a large oak tree. He arrived and sat down in front of the trunk and spoke. "Hey mom. It's me again. I'm sorry it's been so long. I've found a pack. It's great, I've found a place I can prove myself and make you proud." He went on for a while describing his experiences for the past few months. The spars, the academy, All the wolves he met. As he spoke he wondered who had been following him. When he finished and stood up and turned around searching for who was following him. He yelled out, "Alright, I know you're following me. You can come out." In truth, Hythyr didn't exactly know who was following him. However, He felt it was was someone he had met before. The slight scent he caught before reminded him of someone, but who?
"Hythyr howls."

(Ohhhh... I want to see this. But if you guys would prefer to not have Caprina spectate. I'll have her exit.)
Hidden in the trunk of a fallen tree, Caprina watched the events of the woodland landscape unfold. She saw a bunny hop into her makeshift lair tentatively. The sight of Caprina made it hesitate, but Caprina put her head down on her paws, signifying she was not hunting. She had no problem with hunting or killing for food, but she wouldn't do so on a full stomach. She remembered what her mother had said on Caprina's first hunt: "Killin' withou' necess'ty is a waste an' a crime, young'un. And she held that lesson at the core of her being.
The rabbit came no closer but settled on the edge of the trunk entrance, sheltering itself from the wind. Aye, settle yeself down 'ere, li'l critter. Ev'ry'un needs a rest now an' then. She smiled as she watched the rabbit. It was brown with a tan underbelly. Its ears perked, and its body trembled due to exertion and fear. Caprina enjoyed watching her own kind and their interactions, but it also entertained her to see the habits and behaviors of the other creatures on this earth. She fancied watching a mountain lion someday and stalking it without attacking it or being attacked, but she wouldn't dare try it now.
She caught some sound from her right. The rabbit heard it too. It was the padding of paws on earth. The rabbit immediately bolted from the shelter. Curiosity tugged at Caprina. A wolf? she thought. She carefully crawled out of her hiding place. She sniffed the air. The wind was blowing in her face concealing her smell from the approaching wolf, while giving her a full hit of his smell. Again the smell was not familiar, like every other thing about this place. She could only tell that he was male and that he was old. Approach with caution.
She scurried as quietly as she could, tracking this new individual. Finally she saw him. He was brown with bit of black. She likened the color to that of the soil after a good rain. And the foliage it produced was evident in his green eyes.
She watched as the brown wolf spoke about his mother. Part of her felt guilty, and she warned herself that she could get another few scars for watching this. Wolves did not take it well when you poked into their personal lives. However, her curiosity forced her to stay put and watch the scene unfold.
Then she heard the brown wolf say, "Alright. I know your following me. You can come out." Carpina stiffened, thinking he was talking about her.

Heike stood low, blended into the scenery as he saw another wolf join in, gooseberry green eyes narrowed at the sight of her, his ear perked slightly toward her, to hear every sound of her, while the other ear remained in the direction of that silly Hythyr. That sat there, talking to himself, or to his mother? Heike almost flattened his ears then, but kept them in place, he had to have everything going at 100% to keep hidden, even when just standing there, there in the snow. Hythyr was also quiet now, and sitting like a big black rock. ”Alright. I know your following me. You can come out.” Hythyr said sure, Heike got a glance of his eye as he slightly turned his head.
Heike stood silent, ears flattened now, depending on the female to make enough sound to be discovered. Heh, she was not to big, but stocky built and dark brown. Heike smiled slightly, she was to be seen easy! Heike dared not to move just yet, but he could use this distraction to his advantage now. If Hythyr only centered his attention to the autumn female, Heike could sneak around. But for now, he stood still, hardly allowing himself to breathe, quiet, one ear pointed to each wolf, listening to their breaths, it filled the forest.
"Heike huffs."

A new scent filled the air coming from behind the great oak. The scent was completely different from the first one. Was Hythyr about to be ambushed? The Champion took an athletic stance and perked his ears up and glanced around, ready for an attack from any angle. Hythyr wasn't sure if he could take two oppponents at once, but he would give them hell for ambushing him. Fur on end and tail standing straight up he looked around, a confident look in his eyes. The blaze of the warrior shown bright from his stance. Hythyr raised his voice a little louder. "I can smell two here. Are you gonna attack me or not? If so, you should really reconcider! You might be able to take me down but I'll make sure you never forget me!" His voice softened a bit as he continued. "If you don't intend me harm, then could you come out. I won't harm you." Hythyr waited around hoping he wasn't about to be ambushed. Who was watching him and what was their purpose?
"Hythyr howls."

Fill yer well with truth.
Caprina felt nervousness seize over her completely. Apparently there were two wolves in the woods. She could smell him now. But the dark brown wolf with the fur the color of soil seemed to think she was an enemy. Her fur stood on end as she realized the implications of this. She knew she would not be able to take down a wolf like that. If he thought she was an enemy she would have to make it very clear that she wasn't. She quite sure who the other was, but she knew she would find out soon enough.
But at the same time she didn't want the wold to know that she had heard him talk to his mother. She tried to stay as still as possible, but her nervousness compelled her to go and confess that she wasn't an enemy. Her social skills were failing her, finally she did the most puppyish move in the book. She stayed in the brush and called out to the darker wolf. "I'm just 'untin' 'ere. nLookin' for nice rabbits. I'm no en'my of yers. Just passin through." She wanted to bang her head against a tree after she said that. That was the most idiotic move she could do. ooc: ok i'm at a loss of what to do. Hythyr meets Caprina later at the monoliths. that when he sees her. I don't know if him seeing her now will screw up that process of events.

Heike heared the childish reply of the female, and resisted a sigh, but Hythyr knew there was two of them so he had no choice. His eyes narrowed again, and he finally straitened both ears toward Hythyr, rising his head with a low growl and a grin. ”Thinking we are smart now eh? And this is the first time we have seen you not crawl for a female!” Heike said in a tone, reeking of sarcasm. He didn't like this big runt and he wanted revenge, badly. He stared back at the little female and growled. ”What the hell are you doing? Are you one of them oddball puppies trapped in a grownups body?” He snarled at her, a little more loud then he had thought to. Then he turned to Hythyr. ”Right, you! We want to see you crawl for real this time!” Heike roared, echoing in the trees. He then lowered his head and looked with one of those “if sight could kill” looks at the female. ”And if you butt in, I'm gonna tear of one of your legs! Again, all to mean, to harsh, was this Heike talking, or had he not been careful enough? He thought of it for a second, then he turned toward Hythyr again with a wild snarl, as many teeth showing as he could. ”Now what are you waiting for, or do we have to come get you ourself!?” he spat at him.
"Heike huffs."

Caprina's ears pinned down in surprise at the wolf's harsh tone. She really didn't know what to do at this time. After listening to the other wolf's personal sentiments, she was off guard. She turned to the voice with uncertainty. She didn't know how big the other wolf was, but she didn't think it was a good idea for that wolf to challenge him. She wanted to stop him, but at his threat to chop off her legs, Caprina stiffened. She crawled back away from the voice. "Aye! Take it easy! I'm not goin' anythin' to bother ye. Ye guys don't 'ave to fight. I mean come on! The poor guy's been talkin' to 'is dead mum!" Caprina clamped her jaws shut. She just gave away that he heard the darker wolf.

Hythyr heard a female voice answer his statement. He didn't see her his mind was a little more at ease. Hythyr saw Heike and was about to speak to him when the white wolf began to yell. Hythyr's expression changed from relief to concern as he lstened to the wolf's words. The Heike the young Champion knew was a little aggressive, but certainly not violent. He would relish the thought of sparring Hythyr, but this Heike seemed to mean harm towards him. Hythyr faced the large white wolf and lowered his ears. "Ourself? Is there something wrong with you Heike? I don't know what's going on with you but I don't want to hurt you. I'm not going to attack, but if you come after me, I will retaliate." Hythyr spoke to the female without taking his eyes off of Heike."I'd suggest you leave. I can hold him off long enough for you to get the safety. He's not after you." Hythyr's eyes narrowed at his opponent."He's gotta settle things with me..."

Heike snarled and looked over at the female. ”We don't care what that one do!” Insanity has left the building, was all Heike could think, he growled low at Hythyr, then shook his head. ”You fucking weak shit! You won't attack?” the nudger was of most of the control, and Heike barked suddenly to regain control of his mind. Bending his head panting, inside of his head a battle were unfolding, a battle for control. Then he looked at Hythyr with insane eyes and a crazy snarl, he was protecting his neck and lowered his ears as well, and then Heike jumped for him, aiming to headbutt his head or chest, if he could manage that, he would try to use the momentum in the attack to push him down, using his chest and try to grab the side of his neck, keeping his ears down and protecting his own neck. If this was to fail, Heike would jump out of reach. The great white wolf cackled insane as he attacked the black Hythyr.

The white wolf charged forward aiming to bowl the forest warrior over. This raging beast didn't seem to be thinking clearly. Hythyr shouted at the crazed man. "You fool!" Hythyr held his ground until the last moment at which point he sidestepped and readied his counterattack. Hythyr lunged with his powerful back legs. His teeth bared, he set his target. He aimed for Heike's right shoulder; trying to simultaniously bite into him and knock him on his side. If he were successful, he would start trying to pin him down. If not, then he would step back and try to gauge his opponent. He didn't know if Heike learned any new tricks in their time apart and he wasn't about to be caught off guard now. A brief thought crossed Hythyr's mind. What happened between now and the sparring lesson the last time they met. He quickly dismissed such thoughts from his mind. He had to focus on this battle totally if he was to come out of it in one piece.
Attacks: Attacking from the side in a tackle/bite
Defense: Sidestepping, ears still down
Injuries: none

Caprina crouched low and her eyes widened in horror as the scene exploded. The snowy wolf lunged for the dirt colored wolf. Caprina saw the dirt colors wolf prepare to side-step the lunge. She could see by the grace and confidence in the darker wolf that he was the most experienced fighter. The white wolf just seemed to be driven by some form of insanity. He kept using plural pronouns to describe himself.
Caprina knew she should leave, but her gut urged her to stay and try to break up the fight. Then she remembered Deorad. Once on one of their explorations, she and Deorad had come across two wolves sparing. She had wanted Deorad to break up the fight, but Deorad told her that sometimes this was how wolves settled things. He told her that wolves often sparred to see who was the strongest, and one should never interfere unless one wolf aimed to kill. But they waited and watched the wolves. When the fight was done and the victor walked off, Deorad had told Caprina to get some yarrow. When she returned her mentor was tending to the wolf. He used the yarrow and applied it to the loser's wounds.
Caprina realized that's what she needed to do. She needed to be the guardian angel. Her fur stiffened at each snarl the wolves shot at one another, but she would wait to stop to heal the loser or to stop a fatal attack.

ooc; Hythyr and I agreed to let Heike's attack succeed.
Heike stiffened as he felt Hythyr's teeth sink into his right shoulder and right before he was about to sidestep him, Heike growled deep and put his left front and back legs hard into the ground, standing like a mountain at the dark wolfs trick. Laughing darkly at him and bit into Hythyr's shoulder, growling into it, air escaping at the sides of his mouth as he was rambling into it.
Within his head, Heike was no more, but the nudger was in control, he tightened the grip on Hythyr's shoulder, still standing like a mountain, growling and talking into his enemy’s fur. Though no words was understandable, he kept babbling. It was like the time had stopped as the two, dark and light, stood locked next to each other. His eyes closed and within Heike took stance, tightening the grip on the shoulder again as Heike fought his way back to control, and he tucked the nudger away to where he had been ever since he noticed it, at the back of his mind, doing nothing but nudge at his brain.
Time flowed again as Heike opened his eyes and glared at the surroundings. His body softened a little and his legs shook as he noticed his grip on Hythyr. This was not his plan, but a sparring rematch, when did the nudger take over? Or did it have control all the time. Heike closed his eyes quickly before opening them. He released the grip of Hythyr and tore himself out of the dark males grip, almost so forcefully that he fell on his butt. Instead he yelped as he stacked his back legs under him and turned around and ran, ran as if the devil himself was on his tail. The trees were a blur as Heike ran through the forest, away from Hythyr, he couldn't explain what happened to him, he had to get some distance between himself and everyone else. One day, he would seek out Hythyr again, a day when Dimitri had been close so that he was strong again, so that he could ask for forgiveness.

Screw it! You're just going to see Caprina. Hope that doesn't tear a huge hole in whatever plot we had lol.
Fill yer well with truth.
Caprina watched in horror as she saw the wolves lock in battle. The white one plunged his teeth into the darker one's shoulder. She yelped on impulse as if she felt the pain herself. She wanted to jump into the fray and tear the white one off of the other wolf, but she willed herself to stay still. While they were both struggling, Caprina searched the area for some yarrow. She remembered how Deorad had told her a trick for remembering what yarrow was.
"Caprina," he had said, "Would you say that wolves work better when they work together?" Caprina had nodded. Her eyes were wide as she took in every word her mentor spoke to her. "And," he had continued, "Would you say that everything could work this way." Again Caprina had nodded. "Then follow me and I'll show you something that acts in this way." Caprina padded after her mentor as he led her through the forest outside of her pack territory. They both stopped at a set of small flowers. They seemed to be a great many flowers that shared the same stem. "Look closely. This is called yarrow, Caprina, Do you see how there are many flowers on this stem? It's like they are using each other's strength to stand tall." He had looked directly into her eyes. "Though each flower is small, together, all these little flowers have the power to heal and relieve wounds. A wolf only needs to chew them and spit them on his cuts. And with the strength of all these flowers, the wounds will heal perfectly. Remember this, Caprina."
And even now, after her mentor's death, Caprina remembered it. She quickly found the clump of yarrow, plucked it, and darted back to the fight. She crouched low and waited for the white wolf to leave. Apparently the dark wolf had lost. "Wait!" she called after the dark wolf through her clenched jaws that held the flowers. She bounded up to him and dropped the flowers at his feet. "Are ye alright? If ye chew this an' spit it on yer wounds, it'll heal ye nicely."
