What was it here that attracted Cadmon so much? He looked at the landscape around him. It was broken, decaying, and gone. The huge crater in the ground showed evidence of something bashing out the life that used to exist there. He could imagine a forest grew there. The trees would be tall and bright. Their leaves would cover the sky in a way that would allow a bit of sun to filter through them so to make the leaves look even greener and brighter. The soil would be rich and brown, fertile enough to support any plant life.
And then the crater happened. Cadmon didn't know how or why, but it happened. Something from the sky had come down and buried itself into the beautiful forest, eradicating what beautiful life was there and scarring the land forever. Cadmon felt his heart warm to this place. The land knew. It knew what it was like to be scarred. It knew what it was like to be beaten, but somehow in some twisted way, it kept living. The land knew.
As he stepped into the crater he felt the relevance to his own life come back to him. His pelt was evidence of something that used to be there: innocence, joy, and beauty. But not anymore. Something had come in and slashed all the wonderful things about Cadmon leaving the little wolf bitter, defiant, and haggard. It had taken up a wicked claw and slashed up Cadmon's pelt...
and his spirit.
Cadmon eased his way into the pit of lost life. His heart melded with it in sympathy. The land reached to him in understanding. The two of them were one. He could never relate with a wolf like this. A wolf didn't understand him or his pain and chaos. A wolf would never understand. The land always would.

It was at the borders of his own land that the shadow stood, his body low and hidden in the shadows of the last trees before the destruction leaves them spontaneously... gone. Morpheus mourned for the land that must have once been like his own forest, the jungle of magnificence and magic. He crept from the shadows, liking a movement of the darkness into the sun, where the sandy ground met his paws. He growled from deep within his chest as he stopped, unsure. These lands saddened him, but a spark of anger washed through him. What evil did this? He wondered, as it could not possibly have been Mother Earth, she may create deserts, but this was no desert. It seemed more like a giant paw-print. Another thought came to mind, and he grinned. Maybe this was the mother, and she is only showing me what happened to those traitors. He allowed a chuckle to escape his throat before moving forward.
A form appeared in the distance and the shadow stopped to observe. Whoever he was, this man looked dark from where Morpheus stood, and he was sure that this male had a dark pelt, though even from here he could see the mangled look of a scarred body. The grey and black wolf watched the male a bit longer, he seemed very interested in the crater, maybe even happy because of it, before Morpheus began his trot forward. He kept his posture relaxed, with the authority that he had grown accustomed to showing, even though he was not dominant in Atira. Yet. While approaching, his thoughts were on Atira, and he wondered if this new wolf would be interested in being recruited. Maybe if the shadow spoke the right words.
"A sad land, this is." He began, knowing all well that somehow this wolf connected to it. Maybe it had something to do with being scarred? Sure, let's try that. Morpheus made sure to sit down at a good distance from the other man. "It is quite unfair for anything to be so badly wounded, but I suppose the marks make the land." He paused to look out passionately at the land. "Such scars make you wonder 'why?', does it not?" He turned his honey gaze to the dark male sadly. "Greetings, my friend, I am Morpheus Aswara of Atira Clan. Might I ask you of a name?"
"He speaks." He thinks. He does.

He stepped into the ash and sniffed the air. Its was a strange smell; alien, unearthly. Something had hit the land and left a deep impression in the soil. Hythyr had never picked up such a scent before; it drew his attention away from the other wolves for a second. Eventually he approached them, he keep cautious and didn't interrupt. Both had black pelts but one was covered in gray specs while the other was almost entirely midnight. The older one seemed to be trying to talk to the other about his scars. Hythyr knew from experience that most wolves didn't like to talk about their scars, the ones who had went through excruciating pain anyway. The braggarts always embellished their stories. The younger one snapped at the one who introduced himself as Morpheus. The younger refused his name and went on about how Morpheus could not relate to him. Hythyr shook his head. There was no way the young lad could know what the wolf before him had experienced anymore than Hythyr himself did. That's when Hythyr came up.
"Greetings Morpheus, I am Hythyr of the Alyxio League. I do hope I'm not intruding." Hythyr turned his gazed on the scarred adolescent looking him directly in the eye. Hythyr seemed to gaze into his soul. Hythyr spoke smoothly to the lad. "I see you don't want to give your name. What? Are you just gonna let those scars define you?" Perhaps Hythyr was being a little too harsh, but he felt that was the only way he was going to reach the kid.
"Hythyr howls."

Morpheus was more than aware that most wolves do not speak of their scars in any happy sort of manner. This young wolf was obviously no exception, and as he snapped at the shadow, he stayed where he was and calmly observed the reaction. He did not speak until this young, midnight wolf was done. "So be it," He said smoothly, turning a bit as if to leave, and was going to speak more when the scent of a new wolf appeared. He introduced himself as Hythyr, then spoke to the young, dark wolf himself, making a comment that Morpheus wanted to speak. He kept that last part to himself.
"Greetings, Hythyr, it is a pleasure to meet you." He said in a respectful tone, dipping his head politely. As for the younger wolf, he did not add to Hythyr's question, he simply turned his head curiously to observe the young male's reaction. He had started off on a foot in the right direction, sort of, as he had obviously found the battleship. A sensitive quirk in this snarly boy's attitude, of course Morpheus had hit a nerve, it seems. Nerves were what Morpheus searched for, if he knew what they were, he could dance around them after poking at them to see how painful the reaction was, and make amends with most who he had poked the wrong way. Of course, sometimes the nerve he strikes is a good one, and he has made many an ally that way.
"He speaks." He thinks. He does.

Hythyr simply stared at the adolescent with a blank expression. It was evident to the wandering warrior that this young man was one who believed that he was the only person who had ever suffered. At least, that's impression he had given. The other one was quite a bit more polite and Hythyr nodded his head toward him in return. He returned his gaze to the scarred one.
"Oh yes, my question was so cliche. Almost as cliche as your attitude. I can see the world has been so rough on you that complete strangers want to help you. Please, you act as if you're the only one who's ever experienced hardship. And another thing,if you continue this then the person who gave you those scars has already won. They've turned you bitter and made you miserable and it's just the way they want it. I guess you're just gonna let them dictate how you are then." He turned toward the older man. "A pleasure to meet you as well. I sense there is a pack residing here. Are you a part of it?" The packs smell was a little like the one that used to be at the waterfall. Had someone taken over that pack and moved it here? Hythyr was curious as to the pack's new nature.
"Hythyr howls."

Morpheus thought for a moment as the young, dark wolf snapped at him. He simply held himself calmly, listening to Hythyr's speech. He lifted his chin a bit. "And how, might I ask, am I supposed to know when I will meet a being who wishes to show his defeat with such a reaction? I will leave you to your own devices if you wish, as you obviously do not want any company." He said. "I won't ask questions, and I don't envy you, with such a sad will." He kept his voice a bit saddened, as if he had really been hoping to speak with this wolf.
Hythyr spoke to Morpheus who turned to the young man, allowing his face to rise a little bit from his disappointed look. "Yes, the Atira clan, and I do belong to it." He spoke with a bit happier, tone, as if speaking of his pack made his nerves relax. "We are a pack of Mother Earth's morals, of natures laws, and of ethereal magic. We have only just begun, but we will prove to be powerful someday, and we'll keep peace over the land." He grinned. Of course, his leader, Neptune, had not really mentioned anything of the sort, but when Morpheus is leader, and the pack is strong, then he will bring peace to the lands, greater than any before.
His curiosity turned to Hythyr's own pack. "How is the Alyxio league?" He asked, allowing his eyes to make a shape of curiosity and intrigue. His tail swayed a bit behind him as he stood up to stretch. He allowed himself to watch the younger wolf in the corners of his eye. He wondered how this young male would react to both Morpheus and Hythyr's comments, having both spoken on the same page that may have been taken as against him.
"He speaks." He thinks. He does.

The scarred youth said it was not defeat, but survival. Hythyr shook his head. Mere survival? The poor kid didn't understand what he was doing. Sure he survived, but he was giving up the chance to be truly happy. He pushed others away and kept himself in solitude. It wasn't good to be by yourself for most of your life when you had the sort of problem that this young wolf had. Hythyr wished there was more he could do to help him. "I understand. You push others away because to wish to survive. I will not bother you anymore. However, there is one thing you should ask yourself. Is it truly enough to survive? As for me, I choose to thrive." Hythyr returned his attention to Morpheus. The Atira clan had an interesting philosophy. "Mother nature eh? That's a fine thing to dedicate a pack to. Both beautiful and serene as well as chaotic and frightening. As for the Alyxio League, we dedicatw ourselves to talent. Wolves of all kinds of skills can hone their trade in our ranks. It's something we take great pride in." Hythyr found himself taking a liking to this Morpheus as he was quite polite.
"Hythyr howls."

Morpheus noted the younger wolf ignore his questions and comment, but he made no acknowledgement, as if he'd just not noticed it. He could see the young wolf watching him and Hythyr as they spoke of their packs. So, he is interested in packs and others, but the way he reacted to some kind of abuse has left him hateful to others... It did seem a bit sad to Morpheus that this wolf would fight and simply survive, instead of thrive, as Hythyr had said. An inkling of pity passed through Morpheus' chest. It wasn't easy to make the shadow actually feel such trivial things as pity, but this wolf seemed very sad.
"Talent, huh?" Morpheus asked, tilting his head slightly in both curiosity and interest. "Alyxio must be very strong, talent can be a life saver." Morpheus looked over Hythyr curiously. What was his talent? He was lean, with broad shoulders and a confident stance, yet he did not seem overconfident. He seemed strong, and even though he was smaller than Morpheus, the shadow had no doubt it would be an evenly matched fight, even with Morpheus' skill and training. He was quite interesting in meeting this pack, as he would far prefer Alyxio as a friend. Making enemies with them would likely be a mistake.
"May I ask, you have not mentioned your talent, and I could probably guess, but what is your talent, Hythyr?" He asked, making his voice an attempt at calm, but curiosity pulled itself into his voice and interest filled his eyes. "but, of course, you do not have to tell me if it's not supposed to be known." Morpheus added quickly, as if the thought had just occurred to him. He gave a bit of a shy, apologetic grin, as if saying 'sorry for all the questions'.
"He speaks." He thinks. He does.

The scarred youth remained silent and gave the Atiran a look of suspension as he asked Hythyr of his pack. Hythyr had to give credit for being cautious and the earth-hued fighter kept in mind not to reveal too much about his pack. However, there was no reason to keep his role a secret. He held himself up a little higher. "I am a warrior. The Champion of Alyxio. I defend my pack from enemies and take missions from my Alpha." He nodded toward the man and gave him a grin. Hythyr was quite proud of his esteemed position as a protector of his pack. Hythyr turned his head a bit to the side curiously as he asked his own question. "And what of you? After all every wolf has a role in every pack. What is you do? Sorry if I seem a little rude. I'm just curious." Morpheus was a little bigger than him, so it wouldn't surprise him if he was a warrior, but he seemed to have a calm attitude that suggested something else. Hythyr could not hazard a guess to what it was.
"Hythyr howls."

The silence from the young, dark wolf made Morpheus wonder what exactly he was thinking. He didn't look like he was about to attack, maybe it all had to do with his past. The shadow could feel the suspicious glare from him, and it made him wonder why he was already so far against him, as they had just met, yet he seemed to hate Morpheus already. Obviously, he was not a friendly wolf, but it was just unnecessary for him to act so hateful and suspicious of a wolf whom he had just met. Morpheus glanced at him as if feeling scrutinized under his blue gaze.
At Hythyr's reply Morpheus allowed his head to cock to the side curiously. He grinned at the brown wolf's sudden excitement. "You must be very important to your pack, I had a feeling you were a warrior." Morpheus told him kindly. A champion? The shadow wondered if he had fought other warriors for that position. This young wolf was polite, but he was also strong and confident, he seemed to be a good man. He was probably loyal, and would relay every word Morpheus spoke to his leader.
Now Hythyr asked for the Shadow's position, and it was only fair that he shared. "Our wolves have yet to settle into their positions, I myself am still thinking of what I shall do. I could be a warrior, or a herbalist, an ambassador, or whatever my pack needs of me. I will do what's needed, I suppose." He said, looking off into the distance as if trying to see what he wanted, or what his pack needed of him. He knew many a thing that he could do, even be a mystic or shaman, and he would probably settle on doing everything he wanted, everything he had trained to be. Someday, he would take the reign of Atira, then even greater, he would bring peace to the lands with Mother Earth's message.
"He speaks." He thinks. He does.
