There is no end to how cold it is getting, and there is only more winter to come! With the cold season comes extremes of ice and snow that can be painfully sharp on the paws in the north, even for the thickest pelts. Snow has been spotted in even the southern region's woodland cliffs and marshes.

The immense flooding and destruction of much of the land should have upset Na'vi. It didn't.

Instead, she saw this as a welcome change in her life. Some other being must have recognized the monotony and blurry images that walked amongst her like ghosts, and, with a flick of the hand, he (or she, Na'vi believed in equal opportunity for destruction) washed away the grays in a flood of blue. Many were lost, she was sure. As far as she knew, Drachma had not withstood the storm. Did some of the members still exist? Perhaps. Creatures had the uncanny ability to survive, even in the worst of times. Still, Na'vi had no intention of seeking them out. The only one who mattered to her was her brother, and she was quite sure that he had made it out alive. It would take more than this natural disaster to separate the siblings. As for everyone else... Morikiah... Her parents... She could only guess what fate befell them.

Instead of trying to find her old home, Na'vi took it upon herself to see how the lands transformed under the heavy weight of nature. The basin below the mountains had flooded, and danger presented itself in the forms of deep water and sharp rocks. Still, Na'vi saw this as a personal challenge - and a bit of fun. With nothing else to do on this afternoon, she found herself padding across the little dry land that remained, along the edges of the basin. The flooded water was heated by the natural geysers, and she had to be extra careful not to get her toes wet. Don't touch the floor, it's hot lava! Golden eyes lit up in excitement at the game she had made up, and a soft giggle escaped her muzzle as she danced across the rocks, as free and wild as she had ever been.

Don't exactly know the outcome of the other thread yet .. so I'll assuume he's healing.
The life of lonely travel far better suited Niyol than the irritance and pestering annoyance of dealing with his own kind. Many of them, although older than he, were ignorant of his mind .. they were ignorant of his intelligence and oblivious to the way he felt and thought. Just because he was young. If only they understood his depth .. they would not treat him like a child. A grimace spread across the width of his face as he thought of the world, untrustworthy, dirty, and broken. Waiting to grab him and turn him into a robot .. to make him work as they did, to transform his mind and manipulate him away from his defiance and his individuality. To extinguish his spark.

He would not have it.
He would not trust them.
They would not tame him.

Feeling far more confident about himself, despite his limp and healing shoulder, his snarl faded into a far more pleasant state of neutrality. Maroon eyes scanned the place that expanded around him, a palace of water with towers of rocks spouting from the depths here and there .. a precarious and wonderfully dangerous playground. He did not trust himself to run and jump, not with his previous injury, but he trusted his eyes to unravel his imagination. For a moment, he could have sworn he saw himself dancing dangerously on the rocks, flirting so closely with death's fingers that imminently waded beneath the water. Eyes narrowed with concentration on the dark, dancing figure .. realizing only then that it was not a phantom of himself, but something even more amazing.

"Na'vi?" His voice left his lips, soft and questioning as they tested the air. His sister danced with rapture, a light of youth among the decaying death. She too, it seemed, would not let anything break her spirit. The thought made him smile, his ears pressing forward as his voice called again, with more volume. "Na'vi!" He had never questioned that she was alive, never assumed the worst of her. He had known, from the very first raindrop, that the Nahcomence siblings would survive, for what was one without the other?

Dreadful days gave way into long and restless nights. Changes in the monthly season became more and more evident; spiking temperatures dropping rather drastically from the intolerable heat index. With humidity vanquished and the final plunge of the lanse taken through the scalding heart of summer, Torva was ripe for further change. The residential community, or what was left of it, including the man himself, could only hope for possible leverage of reconstruction. Mother earth had not been so kind to them as of late, but perhaps it was a time for renewal and not for further acclimation of wreckage. But what else could be ruined in this life? Nearly everything had been taken from him now, wrenched and ripped from his grip with little remorse for it all. She was gone, vanished without the grace of leaving him any answers to dwell upon. Instead, he lingered in the thought of her, in their home together where the faintest of her perfume only remained. And Zuriel, only a phantasm of the reeling mind, rightfully gone after Morikiah's final encounter with the boy and an insignificant fool he called Orion. Oh, mercy! How the hardened soldier longed for the company of his dear ones, but only by this time, he knew better than to rely on such wishful thinking. And so, he maintained the part of a nomadic traveler, in search of lost hope and faces; with no particular destination in mind.
The basin itself had not gone untouched by the storm's wrath, and was now filled with teemingly warm water and disarranged rocks protuding from it's torrid depths. The behemoth sidled around it's perimeter with an expression of vacancy occupying his handsome features. Placid, as calm and collected as the stillness in the surrounding water, lucid perfection undeterred by nature's severity. It was then, however that the serenity faded upon the small screeches of delighted children at play. Na'vi! Distracted by the familiarity of the name, he pausedm. And then all at once, the colossal wolf seemed to come alive with a verocity of unyielding life, with excitement as he shot forwards, collecting speed and momentum as he went. Lokni? Vespucci, Niyol and Na'vi? What a spledid suprise! Yet, much to his dismay, Morikiah's hopes were once again defeated upon his advance to find only the children, alone and vulnerable. Where their father, their mother? What had become of them, and how on earth had the siblings survived alone? "Na'vi, Niyol! Its so good to see you--" he greeted warmly, the grave creases in his face fading from site as he strode forth, casting a glance about their surroundings as lips parted with speech, "where is your mother and father?"

[lovely table by Kay! <3]

The geyser provided Na'vi with more entertainment than she could have hoped for. Imagination run wild, she pictured all sorts of things swimming about in the water in front of her. Aquatic beasties with huge claws and dripping, pearly fangs, waiting to snap up any young little wolf that dared to prowl too close. But Na'vi was not afraid of the beasties. There was little that she feared anymore, aside from losing her brother or being forced into a cage. Strangers were not to be trusted, and the power of nature was to be respected... But none of these things ought to be feared. Thus, Na'vi danced and twisted with the devil without fear that he would drag her to hell.

The dance would soon be interrupted by a voice calling her name. Ears pricked. Another suitor to find her in this devil's trap? But upon looking up, she saw someone even better. The only knight in shining armor that she had ever known, the only constant in her life of change - her big brother. Tail wagged in delight, golden eyes lightening up like the sun. "Niyol!" she greeted fondly, relief dripping into her voice. There were no words to describe how pleased she was to see him. The only one remaining in this world that she fully trusted and held affection for; if he had disappeared from her life, then there would be no hope. And yet, there was still cause for concern, which she noted as she danced closer to him. "You're hurt," she murmured quietly, eyes softening with concern. Who or what had done this to him? Nature or beastie?

The answer to her question would not come just yet. Before long, another shadowed wolf loped over to the two youngsters. The face was familiar, and he greeted them warmly just the same. The new distrust that had been instilled in her due to the past reared up as she gazed into his face, and it took a moment before she settled. Mentally, she assured herself that he had been kind to her and her father before, so she had no reason to mistrust him. "Morikiah," she greeted quietly. The question that he asked summoned a flurry of mixed emotions within her, each more distasteful than the next. "They are ghosts," he whispered in a hushed tone, previously bright eyes dimmed in a haunted look. Them most obvious interpretation of that statement was that their parents were dead - which Na'vi had the sinking feeling was quite true. But there was a deeper meaning. Her parents had not been in her life for some time now, merely being fuzzy, distorted images that floated in and out of her life as they pleased. Ghosts, images she could not touch. As far as she was concerned, she had been on her own with Niyol for a long time now.

At his calling, she stopped her dance, her flowing body drifting peacefully to a halt .. her eyes glittered. She was a gem in this dark world, a beacon, a lighthouse that signaled for him. She would always guide him home .. because she was home. Or at least the only piece of it he could remember with fondness. As her head turned, the chiming ring of her voice returned the call, shouting his name above the boiling water. He longed to run to her, but still he did not trust his shoulder to guide him safely over the dangerous terrain. He dared not kill himself with his redemption so close. And so he waited with impatient patience as she drifted toward him, her golden eyes immediately laced with concern as she caught sight of his near grievous injury.

"You're hurt," she murmured, and to this Niyol simply shook his head. "There is no pain now," he said simply, his childish voice dipping into an octave that was unusually smooth .. unusually low and utterly captivating. Of course, physical pain stabbed him like it would any mortal, but the confines of his mind did not allow him to believe in the pain. He did not feel it because he did not believe in it. He only saw the beauty of his injury .. not the danger. If only his body could feel the same! If only his body could ignore the stiffness! But he had no time to elaborate these thoughts to his sister, no time to continue the eerily warm reunion of the Nahcomence children, for another shadow was encroaching. Niyol need not say his name, for his sister beat him to it. "Morikiah."

Niyol's eyes traced the grimacing features of the older man, searching him for anything .. anything. There was a hint of fondness, of relief, and a bout of concern as he questioned the whereabouts of their parents. Na'vi answered him, slowly and calmly, stating that their parents were naught but ghosts on their minds. It was certainly true. Niyol remembered nothing of his mother .. and only the resounding coldness and protective nature of his father. But beyond that, there was nothing. "What Na'vi says is true," he hummed, his eyes blinking slowly with a stern lack of emotion. "We have only one another." It was not a statement meant to be taken in a pitiful way, for his voice was laced with defiance and strength. They had one another, and that was all they needed now.

"And your friends? Where are they?" Niyol's ears pressed backward, remembering briefly that Morikiah had once been a powerful man. Well, perhaps this was but a lesson .. that no man was more powerful than nature. That She could have what She wanted, when She wanted it, and nothing would stand in Her way.

Immediately, the behemoth wished to have taken back the words he'd brazenly thrown at the two youngsters; the remarkable talent for spitting fire even when undeserved seemed still alive and well within the wolf. And yet, the Nahcohomence children were inadequate for that kind of treatment or behavior, thus leaving him with the familiar stabs of guilt having a go at his innards. Smoldering eyes of disguised vacancy rested upon them; the jagged mask usually worn about his rugged features seemed to melt away in time as he reclined to his muscled hind quarters. Concern remained to be the primary contributor in the hellion's marred expression, molten jewels tracing over the wound engraved in Niyol's shoulder. What could have happened to them, and why? This could only mean that the pair had seen seperated for a time, and neither were chaperoned by a single parent throughout the terrible juncture. Perhaps the family had been seperated at the time of the great storm, and Lokni, as well as Vespucci were still alive..searching, relentless nights and days for their long lost son and daughter. Morikiah refused the part of a fool, and kept his damaging hopes of possibility at bay, for now. Niyol and Na'vi had been battered and bruised enough after all this time, and perhaps.. perhaps, it was just long enough past due time for healing and recovery.
"They are ghosts," came the heart-wrenching response from little Na'vi, however, the eerie void in her small voice was acutely unsettling. The girl had taken on a reclusive demeanor, obvious enough from the instant distrust that aligned her young face just as she'd found her voice to reply to his brash inquiry. What could that mean? Had the young lady endured the grisly details, had she been witness to her parents slaughter? The mammoth beast's thoughts raced while his mind reeled, guilt now joined by a consuming sadness and overwhelming dissapointment. Detatched gaze seemed to trail elsewhere as silence again reigned, allowing the trio to wallow in whatever emotion that should plague them. What room was there for words? The man would be cruel to try and console these two, for he was certainly not as qualified with being paternal, and then the most important fact remained; it was simply not his place. Beside that, the Nahcohomence children didn't need another let down to take place in him, or anyone..for that matter.
Like them, Morikiah had lost nearly everything to this life. Now, he was merely a sleepless insomniac, wandering through the world's unkind oblivion to face only more despair, loss, and overall hardship. "We only have one another." With even that much, the dynamic duo had accomplished the impossible, had survived disaster, and lived on without the care of either parent. Admiration shined a momentary luster within Morikiah's dismal gaze, the colossus of a wolf finding himself taking pride in these two youngsters. No, he didn't bother to fight off the weak grin that now occupied wicked black lips as he studied the phenomenal brother and little sister. How remarkable they truly were, to have conquered all of which they had, so early in this hellish life. It was a distant, and painful reminder of himself as a boy. He'd only wish that they'd suffered through enough, and that they wouldn't follow down the path of further misfortune as he had. "And your friends? Where are they?"
A torrent of emotions flooded him, waves of undescribable agony. Anguish that he couldn't possibly convey to Niyol, or to any single individual at all. His beloved, where was she? The red lady. The question would go unanswered, for the Lord had fullfilled his sleep-deprived nights with search of her, for anything, even the faintest of a lingering trail that might lead him to her. Namaste, the brute's still-beating heart throbbed for her, longed to be reunited with only her, nevermind the rest. But no, pain could inevitably drive one to the brink of madness, to the point where rational thoughts seemed unearthly, out of the question, and only insanity ruled supreme. Morikiah's dauntless eyes maintained focus elsewhere, as if scouring the distance in quiet surmise. Broken and defeated, he was.. Perhaps, had always been.. until Namaste had managed to piece back his existance, mended him together, had set his heart and soul on fire with a love that would never extinguish.. only to leave him lonely in the dark.
"A question that my knowledge cannot comprehend, unfortunately. I have no answers to give.." Dwindling ambition, he searched for anything that might have bene the answer to the riddles lain before him. Morikiah had searched and found nothing, boundless and now meaningless. "But never fear, not all has been lost," he tried to reassure through the grit of his own teeth, forcing a half-assed smile to display, "This is not the end, but instead.. perhaps a new beginning, for us all." Did he really believe that? No, it was all over for him. But for Niyol and Na'vi, life was still ripe for change, and he would contribute all that he possibly could to ensure something better than this. Better than what he'd faced all of this time. "I cannot go on and leave you behind. You two.. you're all that I have left."

[lovely table by Kay!]

A small, sad smile touched her face when Niyol claimed that he did not feel the pain. Na'vi trusted his words because Niyol was the only one left in the world worthy of her total trust, though that did not mean that she could not be sad for him. She knew not what he had underwent during the time that the two had been separated, and her heart wept to think what might have happened during the time lapse. Na'vi had wanted to be there for him, though she knew that he was more than capable of taking care of himself. Even at a young age, the Nahcomence siblings had an uncanny ability to survive. It is why they still remained, despite parents, despite a pack, despite the storm. They survived because they had to. There was no other choice but to learn to be on their own.

Niyol had question Morikiah about what remained of his group. While the older man did not say anything at first, the way that he gazed out in the distance was telling in and of itself. The expression, lost in thought and perhaps emotion, was one that she recognized. Eyes softened as she gazed at the man who had allowed her family to stay with him and his pack, heart going out to him. Just as he did not reply to her statement of her parents being gone, she said nothing at first to him. Words from a girl who was not even a yearling would not change the situation. She could not ease his pain, though she wished to. Ah yes, the ever present need to help others still beat in her distrustful heart. Such a war of feelings within her.

Morikiah affirmed her sentiments when he replied that he did not know where they had gone. Eyes remained soft; surely he did not deserve this loss. But he added on that not all hope was lost, and Na'vi could only curiously blink at him for such a statement. The smile he wore when saying this did not appear overly genuine, and she thought that it might be better suited on a mannequin. Expressions and words did not match, leaving her to wonder how much hope Morikiah truly possessed in this situation. She would not question him, for now.

Hearing that Morikiah did not want to leave them, how they were all he had, left the Nahcomence girl at a pause. Something about the statement did not sit right with her, mainly because she could not predict where he was going with such a statement. If he knew not of Drachma's survival, then what did he have in mind? Nervous glance was sent up at Niyol, silently questioning what he was making of this. "What do you propose?" came her quiet voice. Fear trickled lightly into her veins, unsure how the rest of this meeting would play out. Logic told her that it would probably beneficial for the siblings if they knew they could rely on an adult in the area, but the distrust retorted that it was difficult to rely on anyone these days. But he helped before, Na'vi tried to reason with herself. Oh, she just did not know anymore.

    Sorry for the wait, gaiiz. And the crappy post, ;__;
The question seemed to silence the ebony behemoth, turning the molten gaze toward the ground. Niyol waited, not with impatience, but with a stern, emotionless gaze. He knew the answer would come for he could sense, he could feel it formulating within Morikiah's throat, begging for release. "I have no answers to give," he said finally, a statement that cause Niyol's ears to press backwards and a hefty sigh escape his jaws. He pressed the air from his chest, his maroon eyes gazing deeply into Morikiah's own, searching his soul for further information. For truth. "Perhaps they are with our parents," he offered grimly, an eerie lack of emotion present upon a quivering lip. But there was still no malice.

"This is not the end, but instead.. perhaps a new beginning, for us all." Niyol cast a glance to Na'vi at this, feeling a bristling emotion rising in his chest. Although he could not identify it, he could taste it, bitter, on his tongue. He brushed his tongue roughly against his sharp teeth, a motion with which to scrape the nasty taste from him. "I cannot go on and leave you behind. You two.. you're all that I have left." Na'vi was the one who looked at him, this time, her voice sounding against the breeze in questioning. Niyol instinctively took a step forward, toward his sister as the bitter taste rose again .. only this time, it was thick in his throat.

"You won't steal us," he snipped, unable to control the quivering of his lip .. the makings of a paranoid snarl. He stood ever closer to Na'vi, ready to protect her despite his grievous injury and lack of experience and minute size. His mind raged, searching for information .. for memories of Morikiah that would lead him to believe he should trust the stranger. He remembered only his father, who was friendly with the man. He remembered Morikiah offering them sanctuary after the fleeing from Dieu. But he knew not of the politics of their move, nor of the emotional bond that had bound Lokni to the man that stood before him. Niyol did not care to understand the past, for it was incomprehensible .. what was real to him was the present. The now. And it felt threatening.

"Tell me about my past." The comment slipped from his jaws at random, but there was a weight placed beneath it .. a sort of pleading. He said this shortly after Na'vi had questioned him, not giving him enough time to spout more nonsense that Niyol didn't understand. His gaze was intent upon Morikiah, not looking at Na'vi .. for she would not quite understand his reasoning he was sure. But it was there. If Morikiah could tell him about his past, about his father .. perhaps then Niyol would find reason to trust him.
